If you RSVP show up.
We'll be in the 39th street area having Middle Eastern at the Aladdin Café (Jerusalem Cafe is also good, although they won't split checks). If you've never had Middle Eastern food, this is a great vegan friendly choice. Think Hummus & Pita Bread, Grape Leaf Rolls (Dolmas), Baba Ganouj, Roasted Red Pepper / Genie Dip, Falafal Sandwiches, and some of the best Yellow Lentil Soup you've ever had... if you're not one of our vegan members they also have some tasty phyllo dough pastries.
On a side note, we've had a few members e-mail in about possible vegan / non vegan issues. They have a dish - eggplant Parmesan which was labeled as vegan - it should be labeled as Available Vegan - and is presumably due to a language barrier issue, I've suggested they change it. Also, someone had *heard* that their pita bread has egg, their chef apparently thought this, in general, of bread. After stopping by and reading over the ingredients from the bakery this is not the case... just to alleviate any questions some of you might have - pita bread is normally vegan. Although it's always good to double check, make sure you order your salads or sampler platters with out feta cheese.
They've recently remodeled, removed the area upstairs, and expanded downstairs. They have seating for about 70 people with the patio, although only about 20 in the back room... so we may be a little spread out depending on the size of the group that RSVPs.
We've decided to order off the menu this time around, they have some great sandwiches and such at reasonable prices. I highly recommend the sampler platter. We could have arranged a vegan buffet, but at 12-13 dollars depending on the group size, we thought it best to keep it affordable for as many as possible.
This is one of the best local Mediterranean restaurants around.
Please - respect the RSVPs, if you choose to come RSVP and SHOW UP! We understand that life happens and if you might not make it - please update your RSVP to no! This is absolutely necessary to keep events free and work with venues.
