Let’s get outdoors, escape pollution and urbanization and explore London's famous and ancient forest and beautiful glades. Join us as we hike (Well...walk) 7-9 miles of magnificent Epping Forest, a beautiful wilderness stretching from the outskirts of London deep into rural Essex. This may sound a lot of mileage but we are breaking half way through for a picnic. So the only corn you are likely to get are bad jokes and the food type! You will be joining 40 others from the London Vegan Meetup group.
Spanning two-and-a-half thousand hectares, the forest has attracted national heroes such as Lawrence of Arabia, who once lived by its edge, as well as royalty who came to what was formerly a royal hunting ground as well as notorious highwaymen such as Dick Turpin. Luckily we won't encounter any highwaymen. However, we will see beautiful forest land, meadows, ponds, rivers, streams, bogs, maybe deer and some rare birds as well as some breath-taking views of London from afar. If there is time I will also be pointing out some of the natural edible plant and medicinal plant life along our walk. (So some of you may wish to bring a plastic bag to collect along the way)
We will meet at Loughton Underground Station which is on the Central Line and is easy to get to. Please note a Sunday service is in operation so it is slightly more intermittent than weekdays. There is a station car park available as well if you are travelling by car to the meet up point. Loughton station is a few minutes’ walk to the Forest outskirts.
We will stop for a vegan picnic lunch (which coincidentally ..... is near a large pub) and a social sit down and then do a further exploration whilst heading on back in a circular fashion. Our journey will also end by a large pub for those who wish to have some form of refreshment....to quench their first. The pub is close to Loughton Station.
Anyone is welcome provided they stick to the vegan food criteria. Please note for those who do not wish to transport their food or a blanket with them, please arrive at no later than 11:10am at Loughton Underground Station. We are lucky that we will be able to transport the food to the Pot Luck picnic point before we set off. But please be prompt as the food transportation option leaves no later than 11:15am. Please remember it is a Pot Luck not a four course sit down.
Please bring only vegan food to consume and share with others (preferably organic produce if possible).
Hopefully it will be good weather but please check before hand and bring the necessaries with you if need be (umbrella, waterproofs etc).
