Day in Harrow - Pizza Lunch

Join Volentians for lunch at The Karma Free Pizza Company, vegetarian pizzeria, who are opening up early just for us.

It opened on July 4th, has seating for 16 people, plus takeaway. Using 'slaughter-free' dairy products, its bases are vegan, with organic flour, and they can make vegan pizzas using Cheezly mozzarella and cheddar. Menu. Review by ToHappyVegans.

For those wanting to make a day of it, we'll then visit nearby Roxbourne Park, with its conservation area Roxbourne Rough...

...and miniature railway open weekend (weather permitting)...

...followed by drinks at The Moon on the Hill Wetherspoon pub...

...then a dinner Meetup at Loving Hut in Edgware...

See this Google Map for locations.

Sorry to say that it won't be open on June 29th, when we're going back to Karma to celebrate Vegan Pizza Day 2013 http://www.meetup.com/vegetarian-419/events/121775612/

I've found this lovely BBC film of the Roxbourne Park miniature railway that we ALMOST rode on :-) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yi25Vzi1t58

No worries Lesley, As anyone who's been on my previous Volentian days out will know, I try to avoid booking so people can come and go as they please.

Thanks to everyone for helping to make this a great event, and thanks of course to Shyam, his wife and the team at Karma.

Apologies for the changeable weather, the lack of train rides (the website wasn't clear that Saturday was an 'open weekend' for other clubs and their families only) and the no-show at the Wetherspoons, due to lack of time.

Good food, great company, lousy organiser (me) ;-)

Richard, I can't believe the number of ppl who are changing their replies so much at the last minute! I hope they are not causing you too and both restaurants a lot of trouble! Anyway we are still coming although we decided that after the visit to the park/miniature railway we will be moving off to do our own thing as we would like to visit old haunts before we go on to the Sakonis, and as we have the pub meet on Sunday we may have to skip the pub tomorrow to give us time for our own things

Message from Shyam - All the Cheezly is in...A new batch of our unique 'slaughter-free' cheese is in...Vegan chocolate and vanilla cupcakes and vegan macrobiotic gluten free cardimom slices are fresh out of the oven. So we are ready to go :) If anyone has any other requirements please let us know. Gluten free bases are also available (£2 charge and an hours notice will be required). We look forward to seeing you all tomorrow afternoon!! :)

I've just spoken to Shyam at Karma. His wife has made us some vegan cakes and they've a new website at https://sites.google.com/site/karmafreepizza/ It's probably worth checking their menu before coming tomorrow, to speed up ordering (Don't forget to order on arrival or we could be there all day!).

It's a conspiracy... first we had Veggie Inn closing, then came weather warnings, and now Meetup will be down tomorrow for maintenance!

NB. The 's' is missing off Nishma's link - http://www.shambhus.co.uk/desserts

Hi Nishma. Shyam at Karma is intending to offer some vegan cakes for sale at lunchtime (I think he's intending to surprise everyone!) and I believe that Loving Hut have desserts. Of course, should anyone want to place an order with you, that's fine too :-) I wish we could get Nitin Mehta to join us on Meetup/Volentia, I'm sure I sent him an invite once... (Funnily, I've got a tab with Shambhu's contact details open on my browser, just hadn't gotten around to contacting you yet)

Thanks for your help Lesley, everything is up-to-date (for now at least!) across all three sites. Now I'm back on Vegetarian Meetup I can create the entry in future, though I'll ask everyone to RSVP on the Vegan one, to make it easier to track (and limit) numbers attending.

    August 24, 2011

  • Lesley D.

I think it worked but I am sure you can do it yourself on the updates for the Vegan Meet Up as you're able to do to it there, I find it takes me ages to do this one simple thing, so I don't think I will be taking on the task of putting your long descriptions again on here and updating them, I do want to help but I just find it too difficult and prefer just to copy up plain text (maybe one of the other organisers could help in future if you want to do this, or you could ask to be upgraded?)

    August 24, 2011

  • Lesley D.

Can you remind me how to insert that properly, I simply can't do it as you know I am not techie at all

    August 24, 2011

  • Lesley D.

Richard I just changed the blurb above to reflect the change in the evening to Loving Hut instead of Veggie Inn (though I have not done an actual link to Loving Hut), but I think your Google map of locations now needs altering to reflect this change of plan for the evening.

    August 24, 2011

  • Richard Ⓥ M.

David, as Lesley rightly points out, there will be a whole range of age groups attending, from infants to golden oldies ;-)

    August 22, 2011

  • Lesley D.

I must say I find that rather a strange question (sorry but it is!). There is quite a large variation of ages on Meet Up, even including a few families. I'm wondering why you ask.

What sort of age group is there usually?

Hopefully the weather will be good and those that want to can eat in the park (Though I'm not advocating wasting packaging!). I suggest everyone orders on arrival, to speed things up and so we can do 'shifts' at the tables, if necessary.

    August 9, 2011

  • Richard Ⓥ M.

Sorry, ignore that question mark, I don't know how it got there.
To get to the Wetherspoons we can either walk (if we've got an hour to kill and the weather is good) or, more likely, make the 5 minute tube journey from Rayners Lane to Harrow-on-the-Hill.

    August 6, 2011

  • Richard Ⓥ M.

Cheers Munish. Nearby Rayners Lane? underground station is served by the Metropolitan and Piccadilly lines.
There would appear to be no closures on the Metropolitan line on the 27th, so Finchley Road to Rayners Lane is a single 20 minute ride.

Mei - Go to the 'Advanced Options' on the Tfl Journey Planner, enter the date & time and it will show the best route taking into account the planned closures.

As I've said for the dinner, I'll just do RSVPs on the Vegan Meetup group in future, and link to it from here, Volentia and elsewhere. It'll make it fairer and easier to keep track. Once Ning allows guests to be added to events, I'll do the RSVPing on Volentia.

    July 29, 2011

  • Lesley D.

Nice to see you on here again on this site Richard, my head was going to pop if I had to keep updating you myself! It's really complicated with each event on three places!

    July 29, 2011

  • Richard Ⓥ M.

Please ensure you've RSVPed to the dinner, if you're wanting to attend that, and only stay on here if you're joining us for pizza. Cheers

    July 28, 2011

  • Richard Ⓥ M.

As Karma does takeaway, I'm not limiting the numbers attending (though I will be giving them an idea of numbers going), I will have to allocate people to the dinner at Veggie Inn though (due to the 30 limit). We're intending to pay another visit to Veggie Inn in September, for those people that aren't able to attend on August 27th.

    July 28, 2011

  • Lesley D.

I've just posted up the event listing on this group for the evening meal, so it would be great if ppl could reply to that separately, and then I can let Richard know the numbers for both meals on the day out in Harrow, thanks everyone.

    July 28, 2011

  • Lesley D.

Could everyone please let me know if you are coming for the lunch only, the evening meal only, or both meals, so I can pass on to Richard the nunbers he will need to book at the Pizza restaurant and the Veggie Inn (which is at 123 Headstone Road,
Harrow, Middlesex HA1 1PG, nearest station Harrow on the Hill in case some of you are only meeting up for that meal). Here it is on Volentia too, starting at 6pm for the evening meal: http://www.volentia.com/events/london-volentians-chinese-meal
