It is our pleasure to announce an exciting evolution of our meetup. After almost a year of discussion, we have decided our group is ready for a name that better fits our makeup and culture.
Three and a half years ago, we began as the St. Louis Vegetarian Society meetup. A year and a half later we became the St. Louis Veg*n meetup. In the next couple of weeks, we will become the Arch Vegans, complete with a new logo designed by meetup member Laura Lamorette.
We believe the Arch Vegans name will more clearly promote the ideals of the vegan lifestyle expressed by Donald Watson in 1944:
A way of living which excludes all forms of exploitation of, and cruelty to, the animal kingdom, and includes a reverence for life. It applies to the practice of living on the products of the plant kingdom to the exclusion of flesh, fish, fowl, eggs, honey, animal milk and its derivatives, and encourages the use of alternatives for all commodities derived wholly or in part from animals.
No matter what your current diet is, anyone interested in a vegan lifestyle is welcome to be a part of our activities. Our meetup will continue to provide guidance, socialization opportunities, and support for vegans and those interested in becoming vegan.
Furthermore, as the Arch Vegans, you can expect the following:
The same high-level meetups, events and activities you have come to expect from us.
Development of a mentoring program.
Arch Vegans merchandise such as t-shirts and coffee cups.
Facebook and Twitter accounts.
Kick-off event at the Arch.
And as we embark on these projects, we will also welcome additional co-organizers to assist us with making our group the best it can be. If you think you can contribute in this way, please contact any one of us to start the process.
We look forward to seeing you at forthcoming Arch Vegans meetups.
Meet fellow vegans near you! Come to an Arch Vegans Meetup. This can be a great way to discuss, learn and explore the joys and the many issues related to being vegan. Whether it's gardening, health, animal rights, food politics, the environment, vegan cooking, or any other related interest, come and share, or just stop by a meetup for a visit and some socializing! You can also follow us on the Arch Vegans Facebook page. http://www.facebook.com/groups/367964060602/
