I agree, for this reason at Santa Fe Tapas we prefer to offer our main Vegan menu during Saturday brunch – where the kitchen will clean the line and change the oil etc prior service – During the week the vegan dishes we offer are limited on the basis of least chance of being contaminated on the line.

As a vegan, I am also very careful where else I eat as well as  the wines I drink – organic, bio-dynamic are some of the curtains people use avoid talking about fish bladders or egg whites/shells that are used during the manufacturing process - or fish sauce in most oriental restaurants.

In my experience, at any restaurant that isn't entirely vegan/ vegetarian... you need to assume responsibility for your menu choices... ie, be an informed consumer. it sounds like you have the information now.
"No pesto, no cheese.."

do I prefer a meat free grill? sure. but i'm also aware that in many cases the best I can hope for is they scrape it off pretty good.

The pesto that they claim to place on the side is actually routinely put on unless you specify not to.  i have asked before if it was vegan and they ha said yes but it has a cheese of sorts on it and the bun is cooked on the same grill unless you ask too.

What a bummer, I have asked many times before and still had a feeling something was off and now I finally talked to the cook and confirmed there is a cheese in it :(

What made it not vegan? That really upsets me.  I can't even tell my parents that its not vegan because they will have a meltdown.  I will tell them not to go there anymore because of unsanitary reasons now lol
