I remember years ago...at least 6 or 7, when I found a Garage Pizza menu
on my doorstep with the words "tofu" and "tempeh" jumping off the page
at me. I laughed and called them saying I never thought I'd see the day
when tofu could be delivered to your door in New Orleans and that I was
sure hell had frozen over. I ordered that night after work and have
been ordering since....pizza, pasta, black beans and brown rice,
polenta, etc. It's been wonderful all these years to eat Karen's
luscious creations many a weekend night for a treat and even once at a
family memorial service when the polenta and red sauce was comfort for
me. All of you know what it's like to find someone who "gets" you
(don't gag, I mean it) and this is what it feels like when enjoying the
plentiful veggie options on her menu.
So, this is the deal. She
could use some help right now in getting her new place going in the
Seventh Ward. It's urgent (she needs it yesterday) and I'm reaching out
to you hoping you might send a donation her way. Her phone is
214-5177. Make it your good deed for the day and preserve one of the
few places that will deliver tempeh to your door?
The New Orleans Vegetarian Meetup group will meet at least once a month to enjoy a vegetarian meal either at a restaurant, an outdoor venue, or a member's home. The group will promote the health and ethical benefits of a vegetarian life-style and host an annual New Orleans Veggie Fest.
