Dear Friends,

Our humane society is about to send out a statewide press release which will list all participating businesses that will be observing "Be Kind to Animals" month, which runs through May 31st.  To be included in this list, our press release and future email alerts, each business agrees to support our Humane Society in some modest way.  If you would like your business to be listed, kindly email me today with a description of your participation and level of your support ("spare change round-up program"/after-hours party/in-house raffle/percentage program, other, ect.) Please contact me at [address removed].  A copy of our press release appears below:

News Release:  For Immediate and General Release

Local Businesses Observe "Be Kind to Animals Month"

(New Orleans, LA) - Several local businesses have partnered with the Humane Society of Louisiana to observe "Be Kind to Animals" which runs through the month of May and was first created and celebrated back in 1913 by the American Humane Association.   During the month-long observance, several area merchants will be helping the Humane Society to raise funds for and awareness of some of its statewide humane programs.  The group's signature partner this year is Benbow Veterinary Services, located at 117 Metairie Lawn, Ste A, Metairie.  The clinic will be sponsoring a "round-up" spare change program, by asking their clients to donate to the humane society after each transaction and will host a wine-infused "Yappy Hour" for their customers on May 28th.

The Manhattan Athletic Spa, located at 4162 Manhattan Blvd, in Harvey, is sponsoring a month-long pet food and supply drive. Zen Pet, located at 4500 Magazine Street, will also donate 10% of specially marked retail items to the Humane Society on Saturday, May 17th, during Magazine Street Merchant's Champagne Stroll.  Auraluz, a purveyor of fine linens, children's clothes and gifts, located at 4408 Shores Drive in Metairie will also donate 10% of all sales, beginning Friday through Saturday, May 16-17th.  Local and renowned artist, entrepreneur and animal advocate, Alley Burguieres, who owns and operates

Gallery Burguieres, located at 736 Royal Street and Cocoally Boutique, 630 St. Ann, sells original animal-inspired artwork will also help raise funds at her two locations.  The Mid-City Bulldog, located at 3236 Magazine Street, New Orleans, will host a "Yappy Hour" on Thursday May  15th, from 5-7 pm and will donate 20% of all proceeds to the Humane Society.  First Bank and Trust, a long-time supporter of pet-friendly projects and corporate partner of the Humane Society will be handing out dog treats to their dog-loving customers during May. Lastly, Kupcakes, Inc, located at 501 Pelican Street, in Algiers,  will sell cat- and dog-shaped vegan sugar cookies through May 31st, with a percentage of all sales on these items donated to the Humane Society (see photo #2.)

"Virtually every business we approached was very supportive, and we hope to increase the number of stores participating each year from now on and branch out around the state in the years to follow," says Jeff Dorson, Executive Director.
