Thank you to each of you who donated $10.00 or more during our recent 24 hour online fundraising drive, which was part of the inaugural GiveNOLA Day. The event ended last night at midnight, but in case you would still like to donate your $10.00, please visit us at https://secure.icorp.net/humanela/donation.htm
Every year since our inception in 1988, some of our key staff and volunteers have lobbied to pass pro-animal legislation and worked to defeat bills that would harm or endanger animals. This year is no different, and we urgently need your help to pass one particular bill, House Bill 1091.
HB 1091 would ensure the safe transportation of dogs in open vehicles on Louisiana state and federal highways. The bill, sponsored by Representative Tom Willmott, who received our 'Humane Legislator of the Year' award last December, requires dogs to be humanely confined in a well-ventilated crate or properly tethered, to prevent them from falling out of vehicles. The bill barely cleared the House floor and will be soon heard by members of the Senate Committee on Transportation, Highways and Public Works. We have listed the members of this committee and how to reach them.
Kindly ask them by phone or email to vote in favor of H.B. 1091:
