Juan, you may not be fully aware of what a wonderful gift Facebook is to social justice causes, such as veg/ vegan/ and animal advocacy. I think that a boycott of Facebook would hurt our cause far more than it would bother them. I also think that attempting to force people into change is a poor substitute for education, encouragement, and relationship building. Your suggestion reminds me of the strategy of changing laws as a method of helping animals as opposed to winning over people's hearts and minds, which is where our best hopes truly reside.

Peace... Don

The best way to "educate" them would be to let them know we won't use their site unless they start switching to renewable energy.

To illustrate, I don't know if you guys followed the news that Apple decided to drop from the EPEAT green registry. The city of San Francisco reacted announcing they would stop using Apple products and as a reaction swiftly rejoin EPEAT. United we can accomplish many things!

...or perhaps, launch a campaign to educate Facebook's leaders about the consequences of their choices, and encourage to switch.
It's important to also bear in mind most Baltimoreans are running 80-90% on coal-based energy.

Hi all,

Since many of us were recently outraged by the documentary "The Last Mountain", a film that shows entire communities and ecosystems being destroyed by coal-mining, let me bring to your attention the fact that Facebook runs on coal-based energy 100%. Maybe it's time to show less indignation and more determination and get off Facebook and other companies that rely solely on coal, such as Amazon and Apple.

Cheers. Juan

Hi Meetup Member,

I just created a new Facebook group page -  Earth Friendly Food Choices - It's a forum for discussion and a great way to support and encourage people from all over the globe to adopt a whole, plant-based diet. We can also connect with fellow veg, vegan, and animal activists to expand our outreach and effectiveness. Hope you will join us! http://www.facebook.com/groups/103906449752363/

I also host the Earthsave Baltimore Facebook group page, which is also about healthier diet and lifestyle but is just for local people. Would love it if you would share some recipes, and cooking and shopping tips with others, many of whom are beginners. This page is also a place where you're invited to share info about other health related events and practices. Hope to see you there! http://www.facebook.com/groups/EarthsaveBaltimore/

Peace... Don Robertson
