Moroccan Buffet - Vegan Dinner to Support Catskill Animal Sanctuary

Sponsored by The Seed Vegan Expo, May 18-19, NYC

Thanks to The Seed for your generous donation to CAS!

Catskill Animal Sanctuary (CAS) is a 110-acre haven for horses and farm animals rescued from cruelty and neglect. In addition to emergency rescue, CAS provides innovative programs that educate the public about the sentience of farm animals, and the devastating impacts of agribusiness and institutionalized cruelty on animals, people, and the planet.

CAS offers weekend and special group tours, vegan cooking classes, speaking engagements, a summer day camp for kids, and a host of compassionate programming year round at its primarily solar-powered Sanctuary. Lodging and meeting space are available on site at The Homestead, a beautifully-renovated pre-Revolutionary farmhouse.

Since 2001, CAS has rescued over 2,000 animals, and has worked in tandem with law enforcement to bring animal abusers to justice. Founder/Director Kathy Stevens blogs for the Huffington Post and is the author of the highly-acclaimed book Where the Blind Horse Sings and the just-published Animal Camp.

-----

On Wednesday, May 29th, we are having a dinner in support of this heroic, life-saving organization.

How will the dinner benefit CAS?

1. We'll be asking attendees to make a $5 donation to CAS.

2. People will have an opportunity to become a member of CAS right at the dinner if they wish. (This is an option, not a requirement.)

3. The Founder/Director of CAS, Kathy Stevens, will give a talk and make a multi-media presentation about CAS to educate us on the great work that they are doing.

In summary, when you pay for dinner, you'll additionally give a $5 donation to CAS. That's it, and it is hugely appreciated! Anything else is up to you.

Our Magnificent All-Vegan Buffet Dinner

Dinner will be an all-vegan Moroccan buffet at the downtown Horus Cafe. Last year we had this same, magnificent all-vegan buffet, and it was one of our most popular events ever. As before, Horus wants our vegan business and is specially creating this all-vegan buffet just for us. Last May's buffet was a huge hit with our members - people have been raving about it ever since. With a huge variety of sixteen delectable all-vegan Moroccan dishes, and the gourmet selection and preparation of dishes, I have never had anything like it, never had anything that delicious (with such variety), anywhere, anytime in my life! Plus, it is all in support of a heroic cause!

Thankfully, Horus has been able to hold the line on the buffet pricing for us, it is still only $25, including tax and tip!!

Also Kathy will talk about her new book, just published two weeks ago, Animal Camp.

Animal Camp: Reflections on a Decade of Love, Hope, and Veganism at Catskill Animal Sanctuary by sanctuary founder Kathy Stevens is the perfect introduction for those interested in exploring the meat-free lifestyle. The stories of beloved Catskill Animal Sanctuary (CAS) residents have the ability to touch the hearts of a diverse audience by giving faces to the creatures that the industrialized and abusive American food system treats as nothing more than products. Animal Camp highlights CAS inhabitants such as Barbie, a hen found under a car in Brooklyn, and her unlikely love interest, the commanding and uncanny sheep Rambo. And then there is the terrific trio of Franklin the hypersensitive pig, Tucker the steer who thinks he's a puppy and Hope the horse with low self-esteem. These brave and funny animals were the first to attend the "Animal Camp," a satellite farm where CAS residents with social difficulties get the space they need to heal.

Animal Camp is more than the heartwarming, provocative, devastating and hilarious stories of the CAS residents. Kathy also delves into the ethics and dangers of factory farming. As readers fall in love with animals they may have previously seen as food, Animal Camp invites all to consider a vegan lifestyle, to give voice to the voiceless creatures and to potentially save the world from itself.

It was my first meetup with your group and it was great. The food was great and the company was very good. David, the organizer, should be commended for making a sincere effort to talk to all of the participants, individually. Two complaints-the dinner should start at 6 to accommodate all of us bridge and tunnel people who have a hour or so commute home, and the restaurant's cocktail waitresses--all dressed in short black skirts, were kind of pissed when asked for a free glass of water. They had to send a young man from the kitchen to bring glasses of water to the many participants and to refill their glasses. The people from the Animal Sanctuary should be commended for their spirit and commitment.

    hi lilly,
i wasn't aware there were hookahs there. if there are, i'd imagine they'd be in a totally different section, where no smoke could reach food consumers. i too am very sensitive to any kind of smoke, even candles. perhaps we'll both get more feedback from others who've been before
