Plaza Hotel: 1. Dinner at the Plaza Food Hall 2. Free Live Jazz at the Rose Club

The Plaza Hotel.

A setting for twenty-five movies, including 1971's Plaza Suite, the renowned Plaza Hotel is a favorite of many, including me. The Plaza was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1986. The Waldorf-Astoria is the only other New York City hotel to be designated as a National Historic Landmark.

Wikipedia notes, "Long the site for famous performers and guests, the Plaza Hotel has also been the meeting place for important political meetings. The nationally known singers Eartha Kitt, Liza Minnelli, Kay Thompson, Sandler and Young, Andy Williams, and Peggy Lee played the Persian Room; unaccompanied ladies were not permitted in the Oak Room bar; and women favored the Palm Court for luncheons and teas. The Beatles stayed at the Plaza during their first visit to the United States in February 1964. On November 28, 1966, in honor of the publisher Katharine Graham, the writer Truman Capote hosted his acclaimed "Black & White Ball" in the Grand Ballroom."

From The Plaza's website: "A cultural oasis amid a bustling metropolis, The Plaza continues the tradition of defining luxury through unmatched service with a modern spirit. While traditions remain, such as the opulent grandeur of the Beaux Arts décor and the superb ambience of the legendary Palm Court, New York’s premier destination for Afternoon Tea, exciting new offerings include the elegant Champagne Bar and stylish Rose Club, as well as the acclaimed Todd English Food Hall and The Plaza Food Hall."

Tonight we will be having dinner in the new Plaza Hotel Food Hall, downstairs, from 7:00pm to 8:30pm. At 8:30pm we'll go upstairs to the beautiful Rose Club (formerly the Persian Room) for drinks and for no-cover jazz from the outstanding Kat Gang and her band. The music begins at 9:00pm. (The music is free, but you should buy at least one drink.)

We'll meet just inside the front doors to the Plaza Hotel. Walk inside, through the front doors (under the flags), and we will meet right there. I will be holding a "MEETUP" sign, and I am 6'4". Then we'll go to the back of the hotel where the food court is, and take the escalator down to food court. I will be waiting just inside the front doors to the hotel with a sign that says "MEETUP" from 7:00pm to 7:10pm, for ten minutes only. Don't be late! You may want to plan to be there early, to make sure you arrive on time.

There are a number of different food vendors in the food hall, and the food is delicious and *relatively* inexpensive. Most of the food is not vegan, you will have to find the vegan food among the vendors. I will help you with this. But realize there will not be many vegan choices. If you are expecting many vegan food options, do not attend this event. The Plaza Hotel is NOT a particularly vegan destination. The only thing particularly vegan about this event is that vegans will be attending.

We will eat in the area by the escalators. I will leave a couple of "MEETUP' signs on our tables. Try not to be late, but if you are, look for the "MEETUP" signs on the tables in the area by the escalators.

At 8:30pm we'll go upstairs to the beautiful Rose Club, get some drinks and hang out, and then listen to Kat Gang and her band, starting at 9:00pm.

What a dream! The Plaza Hotel is so elegant and beautiful. Our group was wonderful -- what a pleasure to hang out with old friends and meet new ones. The Rose Club was luxurious and Kat Gang and her band couldn't have been more perfect. This was an especially lovely evening.

Dinner was delicious, but could've started a little earlier, as
Some of the vendors were closing when we got there

I just cancelled for myself plus one, because I am sick. This means that 2 more can go.

I am also on the wait list. Would love to attend!

Looks like the event is full, but I find myself in that neighborhood a lot. I would love to hear what people find to eat in the food hall. I can't tell you how many times I've gone in there just to leave empty-handed (and with an empty stomach). Ever since that chocolate shop that sold Vegan Diva doughnuts closed I've been a little lost there.

On the waiting list as of today Fri. 10/11 there are 53 attending. Seems like this event should be able to accomodate more. Perhaps, the organizers can open this up or the waiting list moves enough to accomodate more of us.

Sorry. There is not enough space to further open up this event.

This would be my first meetup ever if I can move off the waiting list. I work many hours and this is the one night I have off. Surprised people are allowed 2 guests... shouldn't it just be for those who signed up?

Can you let me know if I am able to attend? Thanks!

Is it ok to bring 3 friends of mine? I am excited to introduce them to a veggie world :)

No, sorry. There is an RSVP limit of two guests for this event. There is an attendance cap on this event -- but I want to give as many group members as possible the chance to attend.

Looking forward to another great evening with like-minded folks (my 3rd event with the group)!
