Vegetarian/Vegan Mexican Dinner - At Award-Winning Mexican Radio!

**Come any time between 6pm and 9pm, stay as long as you want, or leave when you need to. You will pay for only the food you order (plus tax and tip).**

The award-winning Mexican Radio restaurant has a wonderful "only-in-New-York" history. From their web site:

Mexican Radio began its life fourteen years ago as a ”jaunty candlelit shoebox” on Mulberry Street in Little Italy, NYC.

The next four years were a proven testament to Mexican Radio’s award-winning margaritas and delicious home-style cooking as Mexican Radio repeatedly took top honors as Best Mexican Restaurant in NYC. Two-and-a-half-hour waiting-list lines continually streamed around the block as loyal customers cried, ”Time for expansion … please!”

In June 2000, Mexican Radio moved around the corner to its current home at 19 Cleveland Place — happy to stay in the neighborhood which had so fervently embraced the business—and increasing seating capacity from a jam-packed 20 to over 100 people. Upon opening the doors of their new location, a glowing review appeared in The New York Post saying ”If there could be a shrine to Mexican food, Mexican Radio would be it!”

And so it continues. Mexican Radio’s fabulous comfort food and stellar margaritas continue win praises from around the world, including Best Flan in America from Latina Magazine.

Vegan Carne Asada Fries w/seitan, vegan crema & soy cheese

Remaining consistent with their practice of highlighting the delicious flavors and rustic textures of Mexican comfort food, Mexican Radio has a commitment to using fresh, local ingredients.

Vegan Burrito with soy cheese & vegan sour cream

Recently they significantly augmented their menu to include a wide range of VEGETARIAN & VEGAN options and ingredients - guacamole, aperitivos, salads, burritos, chimichangas; that can all be made either vegetarian or vegan. They have Tofu, Seitan, veggie Black Beans, vegan Pinto Beans, Vegan Cheese (they actually use Daiya as much as possible!) and Vegan Crema! Mmmmm!!  By way of clarification, ALL the vegetable items (vegetable mix, spinach, mushrooms, plantains, etc.) are VEGAN, even though they are under the 'veggie friendly' column).

One more thing. This is not an entirely vegetarian or vegan restaurant and there are many meat and seafood dishes on their menu. Due to the aims of our group and the sensitivities of our members, we just respectfully request that -- if you are not yet 100% vegetarian -- you do not order any of these items while dining with us. Not when there are so many delicious veggie options. :) And we definitely want to support them for adapting their menu and show them how much demand there is for vegetarian/vegan dining.

For those of you who have never attended one of our Meetup events: this is an incredibly friendly & welcoming group. It will be easy to find us: just ask the waitstaff where the "meetup" is. (Our big group will be easy to spot.)

** You are welcome to show up anytime between 6:00 PM and 9:00 PM. You may stay the whole time, or feel free to leave whenever you need to. If the room gets crowded, we may ask people who have finished their meals to move to the bar for a little while. **

PLEASE BRING CASH. Credit cards are not accepted here.

Subway Directions: Take the B, D, F or M to Broadway-Lafayette, OR the N or R to Prince St., OR the 6 Train to Spring St., OR the J or Z to Bowery.  (There are lots of subways options for this restaurant.  6 is closest, but none are far.  I'll be going to Broadway-Lafayette.)

Join us for a superb Mexican dinner at this renowned (yet reasonably priced!) restaurant.

Hi Alyx! Welcome to our group. Sorry, don't mean to sound like a schoolteacher. Are you aware that for meetup events, you must RSVP for an event? You are not rsvp'd for this event, so you may not attend this one. Also, there is a waiting list for this event, so were you to attend, you'd be skipping past the people on the waiting list. Welcome as a new member to our group, and hope to see you at future events! Best regards, David
