from the Owner
Hello Family and Friends....
Ciren Zhuoga and I (Barbara Johnston-Brown).... are so happy and joyous to bring you all the information about our new Green Earth Cafe & Bakery opening it's doors for businsess on Jan. 9, 2012...next monday from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. to begin with.
We will start with serving light breakfast fare; opening our doors around 8 a.m. with a few items such as our delicious pastries, hot cereals, quiche of the day, great vegetable dish of the morning....to give us a wonderful start to our day. We will then be offering a gentle lunch menu along our opening journey which will be served from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., at this time.
Our hours and meal options will change seasonally with our local produce and other whole food items becoming available for us to cook with. Most items will be made in house from scratch.....or obtained by local organic vendors who have the same vision in mind. Minh Tsai's Hodo Tofu being one, and Eduardo Morrell's Breads being a second one, to give you some examples of the quality and devotion to great local organic whole foods which highlights what we are all about.
We are located at:
2124 Center ST., Berkeley, CA. 94704
we have a facebook page and will be tweeting our daily menu selections as we get up and running. We will grow over these next few months to include serving more menu items, serving dinners and eventually saturday and sunday brunches as well. Soups, salads, sandwiches/wraps/burritos, unigiri, sushi and plated meals will be our mainstay...we purchased two pizza ovens with the purchase of this location, and therefore have been honing our skills for making the tastiest vegan pizza we possibly can.... In house specialty drinks will be made on site, specialty loose leaf teas, coffee, type beverages will become available as we grow over the next month or two. We will serve the" Green Earth Special" (which is fundamentally our chefs choice of the day: featuring a delicious macrobiotic plate for the lunch menu to begin with, then adding the dinner selection within a month or so). Seasonal Desserts such as: cakes, pies, kantens, cookies, cupcakes, steamed desserts, fresh fruit of the season being used always..... We will also make some gluten free items....with the knowledge to everyone that we use wheat products in our kitchen/cooking and that to be fully wheat/gluten contaminate free is not possible at this location. Many of our items will be quick service style as we are located on a very busy street 1/2 a block up from UCB. We will do our best to maintain our local organic vegan ethical mission: Please let us know of any great farmer's or vendors you know about and would like to see us connect with. You can bart over to the Downtown Berkeley station and walk the 1/2 block to our cafe & bakery, or you can take the local AC Transit, which drops you off across the street from our location. Parking is on the street, not generally difficult to obtain a spot if you are driving over.
Thanks for all your support and help along this journey these past 7 months. We will have a light dinner on friday or saturday Jan. 6th or 7th...Please let me know if you would like to attend, and how many are in your party, to enable us to plan our food portions accordingly and serve all who would like to be a part of this most wonderful opening evening. Beginning dinner service at 5:30 p.m. We have seating for 33 inside and 12 outside. Looking forward to serving great Local Organic Vegan Ethical Sustainable.....Macrobiotique food to all of you sometime in the future.... Lots of love Barbara
