I think it is a great idea, we have done lots of reading as well, but would love to hear personal experiences and ideas.  Count us in!

I think it would be a great idea to get some "experts" in as well (and our own anectodal experience, which counts for alot I think). We could discuss raising kids veg*n as well as some information for adults who may have questions about the top things that seem to come up all the time: B12, Protein, Iron, Calcium, etc. PLUS, there are some good books such as "Raising Vegan Children in a Non-Vegan World" and "Help! My Child Stopped Eating Meat!" and lots of cookbooks for veg*n kids, etc. It would be great to have a meet-up with this theme and then have lots of literature available for people to look through and order on their own if they are interested.

Nicola,
That's a great idea and should be fun and doable: have a meetup to go over the nutrition of raising a child veg*n - what to think about what is usually a healthful gift to our children. ;)

Having never eaten animals I and reading of the American Dietetic Association's seal of approval of raising kids veg*n I probably take some of it for granted. We could at least draw on our own knowledge and probably get some expert(s) from New York Coalition for Healthy School Lunches (non-profit) and maybe Physician's Committee for Responsible Medicine.

Any early interest? Ideas/requests? Please reply se can get an idea how many people are interested and in what.

Awesome!
Andreas

Hi everyone,

This is not specifically in regards to the parade, however, it is relevant to living the veg lifestyle. I believe I met many of you at the Easter potluck, and I have a 4.5 month old girl who I am interested in raising veg. I have only been a vegetarian for two 1/2 years and am headed in the vegan direction (i still occasionally eat cheese and icecream, but all other dairy is non dairy), but I wanted to know if it would be possible to have an educational meet up for those new parents out there who desire to raise their children in the veg lifestyle but also want to make sure we aren't missing out on the important fats, iron, and nutrient/minerals that are vital to a child's development. I know that adults nutritional requirements are quite different than a child's and as i mentioned i havent' been veg long enough to consider myself an expert and obviously only want the best for Rubi. I know there are veg parents that have healthy veg toddler's/older children, so if they would be willing to share their knowledge and experience at a meet up, that would be GREAT!

Thanks ahead of time for your help! I think these types of meet ups would possibly be very beneficial for all of us, and who knows, there may be some additional learning points that some parents who are already raising their children veg may not know.

All the best,
Nicola
