Global Vegan Waffle Party - VegOut is in!

When I think of waffles or say the word waffles I immediately smile. Who wouldn't?

Join VegOut in celebration of the third annual Global Vegan Waffle Party. The party is a fun opportunity to eat waffles and socialize with others who are vegetarians, vegans, aspiring to move in that direction, or just curious.

Did you know that waffles have been with us since Medieval times? Waffles were so coveted that things got a little dicey outside of churches where waffles were sold. The vendors had to be spaced far apart or all hell would break loose. Who knew?

Belgian waffles were introduced to America by restauranteur Maurice Vermersch, who sold his Brussels waffles under the name "Bel-Gem Waffles" at New York's 1964 World's Fair. So VegOut Pals, check this out:

This waffle party is the only Global Vegan Waffle Party officially registered in the Borough of Queens where Belgian waffles got their start in this country. How cool is that?

In addition to offering food and fun, this year's party will also seek to raise awareness about the virtues of veganism for all species and our planet. June 5th, one week after the waffle party, is World Environmental Day 2010. The United Nations has declared 2010 the "International Year of Biodiversity," and the theme for WED 2010 is "Many Species. One Planet. One Future." We see this as a great opportunity to raise awareness about how veganism is "Good for Many Species and Our Planet." (and you thought waffles just taste good)

Please bring a waffle topping of your choice and include it in your RSVP so that others know and can plan accordingly. Waffles will be provided by our party?s hosts, but if you have a waffle maker that you can contribute please let us know. Square or Round? Savory or Sweet? This is getting suspenseful.

The fine print:
This event is free, and no one will be turned away for their inability to bring a topping.
(This is a private residence. If you are in a wheelchair or otherwise have special needs please let us know.)

Directions: Take the 7 train to the 82nd St-Jackson Heights stop or the E or F train to Roosevelt Avenue-74th Street.
