Peaceful Protest at Sarasota Kennel Club

It's been awhile since we've protested on behalf of the Greyhounds and now is the time, advocates! Please join us for a quick protest before the daily dog race at 12:30pm. The Greyhounds are in desperate need of positive attention to get this inhumane practice put to a halt. 8 of the 89 Greyhounds euthanized in the state of Florida over the past year were regular racers at the Sarasota Kennel Club.

The protest will be held at the corner of Bradenton Road and University Parkway, right at the entrance of the club. Please park across the street, not in the Club's lot. The nice people with Florida Voices for Animals meet up group will be bringing some signs for use. If you're planning to make your own some good sign examples include: Greyhounds are Dying to Entertain You, End Greyhound Racing, Kill Racing Not Greyhounds, Racing to Their Death.

For additional information about animal advocate efforts, upcoming bills and legislation, petitions and protests consider joining Sarasota Animal Advocates on Facebook or email me directly at [masked].

Dear Lori and Farrell - thanks SO MUCH for sharing that information with me. Am surprised at this Petland, but don't know why anything should surprise me any more about negative things happening to these poor creatures. YES, the USDA has pretty. sketchy standards...they supposedly inspect laboratories (but not any little mice, birds, etc. that are pred in those labs). Am still trying to learn more specifics about the lab in Tampa - have not been able to reach anyone with whom I can talk.
The whole thing is so disgusting...

I am curious as to why you are protesting Petland - they take very good care of their pets, and pay unannounced visits to the breeders. I do NOT approve of puppy=mills at all - that goes without saying- but I think there are better places to protest than Petland. Sorry, but no one I have met who has purchased a pet there has had complaints...it is not the typical pets store, in my humble opinion. Am referring to the one on Fruitville, in the Mall.

IMPORTANT: Does anyone have any data on the laboratories that we are picketing in Tampa on the last Saturday of the month --- has anyone been denied access, have there been any hidden cameras inside, etc. We really have to get our 'ducks in a row' on that one....I abhor labs, animal experiments but we need to know particulars about this lab. Does anyone agree with me on this? Thanks.....

Hi Jane, according to the Humane Society, The pet store Petland is notorious for selling puppy mill puppies. The Humane Society of the United States has done several reports and exposés on the chain store, animal welfare websites everywhere are warning people to stay away, yet still the public seems to be blissfully unaware of the truth.

PetLand gets their dogs from "USDA approved farms", which we all know that isn't saying much as USDA has pretty sketchy standards. Their dogs' records have been traced to notorious puppy mills in the states. Also, I am not protesting PetLand this go-around...only Puppy Town.

Again, THANK YOU for your support and to all who came out. It was a huge success making it the first story on Channel 7 and front page of their website. Call Rick Scott before 4/8 and tell him to support the decoupling. We'll know Tuesday if we'll have to protest them again! If not, focus will be on PetLand and Puppy Town until they are CLOSED. Maybe even a circus protest? Hmm... :)

We love greyhounds, worked with shelters, fostered, and lived with one. Will try my best to join this great event (if my guests from out of town will agree to join me)
