Climbing Training Event #1 - Arlington Hills - 33 miles - 3,100 ft - RESCHEDULED

RESCHEDULED RIDE FROM FEBRUARY - Due to road work I modifed the route - Please check new route below - added a couple miles and a little more climbing

This is meant to be a training ride so not as recreational as some other of our Meetup rides. Definitely a B/B+ ride with constant up and downs.  Should be comfortable w/ your climbing skills and riding on roads with decent amount of traffic. Meant to be a good workout for base miles and the climbing legs.

If you can't maintain on average an overall 15-17 mph pace then you may end up getting dropped (subject to if additional ride leaders are available to lead slower groups).  So long as you are comfortable with this potential I have no issue.  However, this means you need to make sure you are familiar with the route.

I'm initially going back down to smaller group of 25 (compared to 40 when scheduled in Feb).  If folks want to step as secondary ride leaders I'll be willing to increase the ride size.

Total distance:approx 33 miles
Total elevation climbed: approx 3,100 feet
Pace: Medium: 15-17 mph avg; On the category systems call it a B/B+ ride
Terrain: Gregg would call it hilly, I would call it lots of rollers with a few punchy but short roller
Start/Finish: Ballston Metro/Orange Line
Highlights: Rosslyn Climb, Military Road, lots of climbing and tired legs
The route/cue sheet can be viewed at the link below:

Windy...I only caught a small section of the ride but it was great hanging out at Cosi afterwards! I'll pay my penance on this route during the week. Anyone up for the same route on Wednesday afternoon?

Hahaha! :-) Yeah Chris, looking a the weather report Wednesday is probably a no go... today is so sunny and pretty it's downright irritating! As far as the stable.... things are quite bare...hmm an excuse to buy more bikes?

The new carbon Mukluk is reportedly going to weigh-in under 25 pounds if you spec it with the right equipment.

Great ride today, thank-you Gregg and Chris for sweeping me up from the back of the pack. :) Awesome route Matt, I need to do that more often.

Matt, Chris and Gregg...Thank you for setting up this ride. Sorry I bailed out so early but my legs were telling me they wouldn't last through all those hills. I also wasn't real comfortable descending in that wind (just one more skill I need to work on). But, I did not bail on riding. I did a 40 mile modified Arlington Triangle with a hop over the river to National Harbor for some coffee. Look forward ro hearing the ride reports. Cheers!

Just a note, there is construction on Williamsburg Blvd from N Kensington to just about N Glebe (just before mile 23 to just about mile 24) so be careful since some is on the downhill. The last time I rode through there three weeks ago, there were three bad patches. Construction equipment blocked some of the bike lane between Kensington and N Harrison, there was road narrowing at N George Mason, and there was a mess on the uphill climb (34th St N to 35th St N).

The construction equipmenton Williamsburg is gone, but a lane is closed near N Kensington, and the uphill to 35 St is totally open but the pavement is very rough. Also scattered gravel on the edges most of the way from Sycamore to Glebe,

I will be in the slower group. Do we have a sweeper? I can ride home by myself if left behind. Nicer to have a sweeper.

I like the new route! When I pedaled around the route map from the last ride things got interesting around N Dittmar Rd. and 35th St. N.... With the straighter route along Glebe to Military the ride should be quite a bit better!

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
