WET! An interesting series of events made this quite a memorable ride. Oh, and I SAW BAMBI!

Well my friends - the sun did indeed come out ... just at the end of the ride. Many, many thanks to all you who have participated, traveled far, bailed early and/or completed the ride. All your efforts are greatly appreciated and I promise that a dry version(minus the wetworks) will be scheduled shortly. Special welcome and congratulations to Elvis, Pepe, Payton(join the group already!), Lane, Jaime, Heidi, and Denise for their inaugural ride with the group. Hope to see you again soon. Special thanks goes to Colin and Stephen for the impromptu SAG support, you're the greatest gentlemen. Finally to Tom, Paula, Josh and Ted for the post-ride lunch at Baja Fresh. Thanks again everybody and until the next time.

I had fun riding almost 50 miles under the rain (most of the time) and meeting fun people.

My thanks to the group for being so welcoming - and supportive, waiting for me when I blew past a turn, and once when I dented the pavement with my left hip on a slick turn.

A bit of light rain kept the temperatures down and you didn't pick up road grit as long as you didn't draft too closely and kept your mouth closed. (I failed miserably.) But at least the group didn't drop me; I had the only dry and legible cue sheet.

The rain is only on 66 it's not even real rain... more like sweaty bike spray as some speed demon itches right in front of you on the paceline.

    June 23, 2013

    • Haider H.

      Ok, forgive the "mild understatement"

Got sucked off the back of the pack I was with. Ride was very wet, and I couldn't see a darn thing - including the rest stop, which was apparently by the traffic circle. Finished off the ride not far behind Haider and Lisa.
Would not mind seeing it in the dry some time.

Rode the entire route up paced. I had initially made a left when I know better and should have gone right, just out of the parking lot. So in soaking wet and sudsy puddles I rode.. when I caught up with Paula I thought I was close... drive on said the coachman in my head. Caught up with Catherine and my peleton abandonment issues were in full swing. Pedal faster we agree, "they've got to be way ahead!" We arrived to an empty meetup starting point and discovered we'd missed everyone and hammered to catch up to people behind us?!??!!! Yah I'm the one at fault here. Thsnks to everyone for the Birthday wishes and muffins. It's so nice having cakes and talking gear post ride!

5 minute in the rain and I decided to stop. Went back and drove the car around to perform SAG wagon activities.

Franz, I see that a lot. I don't have a cue sheet like Gregg so I have nothing to compare the route to. I usually end up on the ridegps site comparing notes. I look at the route and repost the turns on Garmin with a pace of 16mph to give everyone a rough idea of the ride.

      1 · June 22, 2013

    • Haider H.

With steeper climbs and ascents I dial back the pace to 14mph.

Can one of my buddies join in? Sorry for the late request, Gregg.

    June 22, 2013

    • Gregg

Sure, if they can keep up.

      June 22, 2013

  • Haider H.

For the garmin-ites 16mph STANDARD PACING.

    Can I join in?

  • Chan L.

Gregg, any chance of adding one more? I ended up not going out of town and would love to join you guys. Can also drive +2.

    June 21, 2013

    • Gregg

Chan, consider yourself in. See you Sunday.

      June 21, 2013

  • Gregg

Okay Good Folks. The route has been finalized and can be viewed at the link below. The route has been slightly increased to 49 total miles to minimize traffic exposure. There will be one extended break at mile 29. Terrain wise: about the same, mostly rolling with some steep stuff thrown. Cue sheets will distributed prior to ride start. See you Sun.

Shady Grove Metro area is a bit of a concrete desert. King Farm is likely your most convenient bet for eating options. They have a list here: http://kingfarmvillag... There's a Mayorga Coffee around there too.

      June 21, 2013

    • Gregg

Sorry Stephen, but the choices are more limited. Mayorga closed 2 months ago.

  • Haider H.

um.... It's my birthday on this particular sunday... CAN WE DO A LOOOONGER ride involving Matt type climbs? 47 seems so sad and short!

    2 · June 16, 2013

    • Tom A

"47 seems so sad and short" What! no way! I didn't think you were THAT old...

      June 18, 2013

    • LDMay

If I had time, I'd do the double to celebrate.

      June 21, 2013

  • Haider H.

Do we have a GPS route yet?

    1 · June 21, 2013

  • Gregg

Good News! The event has been enlarged to accommodate the folks on the Waiting List and is now closed to any new RSVP. If you can not attend, please change your RSVP accordingly and don't be a "No Show".

  • Jennifer

Hey Gregg, how does this compare to the Almost summer ride? I can take the longer distance, but not sure about the pace on the climbs? I think I can hang with y'all at 15-16 on the flats.

    1 · June 16, 2013

    • Neelam

Hey Jennifer, we will be riding together again next week.. I just RSVPed for this ride!

      June 16, 2013

    • Jennifer

Great! Looking forward to it :)

      June 17, 2013

W less than 24 hours between trips, making this ride will be a triumph of logistics. Wish me luck, peoples.

    June 16, 2013

  • Franz

Gregg, do you have route/cue sheet ?? thank you.

    1 · June 16, 2013

Hey Franz. The finalized route will be emailed/posted later this week. Cue sheets will also be distributed prior to ride start.
