Looking for a quality epic ride on the somewhat hilly roads of northern Loudoun County in June? Well, the good folks of Bike Me DC have graciously extended VeloDCity an invitation to a pot-luck style BBQ that includes scenic farmlands, challenging climbs, distance options(27 and 53 miles respectively) and a really cool place to relax and spin a grand tale of your earlier ride experience. The cost is $5 per person which will cover the cost of set-up. Participants are also asked to bring something to eat, drink(or both) to put on the grill and share with your friends.  In addition to answering the registration questions, please use the comment field to indicate what you plan bring.  If you have any questions, please contact me or the very wonderful Event Host Extraordinaire: Sarah Wentworth for any questions.

Climb Elv: 3702 ft
Max Grade: 10.8

Ride Option B

Nice ride with a couple of hills - the first after a short warm up was fine, the second one at near end was different.

For the Garmin-ites.... http://connect.garmin.com/course/3896872... THE 52 mile course. Paced at 16mph... to finish in 3:15:43.

The route has since been fixed what others rode after we found the gravel. I have never been able to benefit from Ridegps exports. I have to reconstruct using Garmin Software which means re-entering all the turns and points. Doing so under the Garmin software allows for pacing the ride. Any unit with an enabled shadow riders can keep you moving along the course at a good speed. If you want something other than garmin Ride with GPS might be the way to go... Unlike garmin editing it... might not be so easy to do.

I see. I am going to eventually buy a Garmin device. I just need to decide which one. Then I won't have this exporting problem. Thanks again. Hope we meet on a ride soon.

Thanks to Sarah, John and Gregg. A thoroughly fun outing!! Lovely scenery, just a bit of challenge, and a wonderful group/venue for the cookout. Note: I'm off on bunches of travel for the next few weeks. So I probably won't make upcoming rides for a while. Some trips are work, some fun...and one is RAGBRAI! Will think of my VeloDCity friends wherever I get to ride.

Hey Folks. Many thanks to everyone who participated in Saturday's event. It was great to meet so many new and familiar faces. To quote somebody famous: "you guys ROCK!!!". I would like to thank John of the Bike-Me-DC for the kind invitation and especially Sarah for being a truly wonderful person and her extreme generosity in welcoming us to her home. THANK YOU! Until the next time, enjoy the ride.

The Bike Me DC! Meetup site recently added more info about the post-ride BBQ:

      June 13, 2013

    • Tom A

The BBQ, which is being co-hosted with the VeloDCity cycling group, will begin @ 2:00 pm which should allow riders doing the Almost Summer Bike Ride from Grace Willow Farm (separate event) to complete their ride, and end at 6:00 pm. Paper plates, utensils, cups, napkins, and bottled water will be available along with grills for cooking our food. A limited number of tables and chairs will also be provided.

      What you should bring:

Whatever food items you would like to have grilled for yourself and/or to share
      A side dish to share
Whatever beverages (alcoholic or non-alcoholic) you wish to drink.
Folding chairs and/or a blanket to sit on
Camera to capture all the fun!

    - Saw this whilst perusing a UK site. About a race in the Dc area. Looks like Virginia though. Does anyone know this race?

    June 13, 2013

    • LDMay

Whatever it was it was in Crystal City. Having just been ridden over myself, I couldn't watch.

The Air Force Cycling Classic runs 2 sets of races (Sat. & Sun.) and one fun ride Sunday morning in Arlington. The Sunday race route has a 2-way section toward the north end that seems to match the video. The marshal was standing in the yellow hashed area south of 15th St. on Crystal Dr. in Crystal City. Go to the website http://www.cyclingcla... for course maps, and GoogleEarth for the overview.

Hey Greg how long does it take to get there? What kind of roll is it, i.e. tough, moderate, easy etc, thx

    June 13, 2013

    • Gregg

Bud - Not sure where you're coming from however the estimated commute time is 45~55 minutes from downtown Washington. The rolls include the full gamut of easy to tough which will most likely include the hideous Stumptown Road. I'll confirm as soon as I can.

Hey Gregg, what's going to be the pace for the 53? I want to sign up for a night ultra marathon the samw day and wanna know if I can do both the ride and the ultra

    June 9, 2013

    • Enrique R.

NF: north face endurance challenge, OSS/CIA: is an ultra marathon this weekend in Prince forest park, in the trails where the CIA and the former OSS secret agency used to train. Hahaha. Washington slang, isnt it

      June 12, 2013

    • Erik P.

Good call Enrique :) i really want to do OSS someday!

Hey Folks. To clarify some of the questions. There is space available for Saturday's event so please sign up, it would be great to see you. If there are any questions please send me or Sarah.

    June 12, 2013

  • Enrique R.

Hey guys. I had to rent a car to come this saturday. I have to return to DC area right before the ride. So, if anybody needs a ride (and has a bike rack) I don't mind picking you up. Text me or call me:[masked]

    June 11, 2013

  • Oliver

What which distance option are people doing?

    June 9, 2013

    • Gregg

I'm planning to do the 53 but may lead the 25 if necessitated.

Stumptown & Taylorstown are calling my name. RSVP'd & paid through Bike Me DC. See you all there!

    June 4, 2013

  • Joanne N.

I will be driving from southeast D.C. and can help up to two people and their bikes get to the farm. Unfortunately, I have a commitment immediately after the ride that will take me towards Kensington, MD, and I will not be able to offer a return trip to DC (but may be able to help someone in the bethesda/silver spring area).

    June 3, 2013

    • Enrique R.

Great Joanne. Thank you! My email is [masked].. see you tomorrow

      June 3, 2013

    • Enrique R.

Hi Joanne! I think I wont be able to attend the HH today. I already signed up and paid to come to the ride. Please, let me know the details to meet that day... And I will come back with you. Silver Spring means that you can drop me off in the metro?

      June 4, 2013

  • Enrique R.

Is anyone driving there from D.C.? Before RSVP I want to make sure that I can get there.

    June 3, 2013

    • Gregg

Same here. Carpool arrangements will be made for those that need it.

      June 3, 2013

    • Enrique R.

Ok:-) then I'm coming... see you tomorrow in the happy hour

      June 3, 2013

  • Haider H.

Can we bring cash when we show up with victuals instead of paying via da web?

    June 2, 2013

    • Gregg

For planning purposes, it would be preferred if you do the online thing prior to start. If it helps, I can take your payment if you'll be at Happy Hour this Tues.

      June 2, 2013

    • Haider H.

My making it on time the happy hour depends on work... Which is why I haven't RSVP'ed to it. I'll try to get there.

      June 2, 2013

  • Jennifer L.

Hi Gregg how many miles is this ride?

    May 23, 2013

      May 24, 2013

  • Catherina C.

    Hi all, are rsvps closed?

    May 23, 2013

    • Gregg

Sorry for the confusion, the event was accidentally posted before details were finalized. For the folks who already registered, you will receive a refund of the difference. Please take a moment to indicate what you plan to bring(food, side dish, beverages, etc). Thanks!
