56 miles and 1,800 feet of climbing, all via rollers; i.e. a fairly flat ride by my standards
NOTE: I recently changed the route to add a few miles and have a better starting point than a grocery store parking lot. New Start is just slightly further south off of Route 5
NOTE: A LIABILITY WAIVER WILL NEED TO BE SIGNED BEFORE THE RIDE - If you don't sign one you will not be allowed to participate in the ride - I will have waivers at the ride start.
For something new lets head east into Maryland and explore the rolling countryside of Charles and St Mary's Counties.
This ride will require carpooling/driving. Start is about an hour from DC area
This will be a looping tour the farm land of Charles County and into St Mary's County through primarily countryside, farmlands, and trees. We'll veer off our counter clockwise loop for a quick excursion to Golden Beach and the Patuxent River before heading back west toward whence we came.
Given remoteness of area there is only 1 stop at around mile 30. We can also stop at Golden Beach for views of the Patuxent River at mile 46 (but this will be just for the scenery).
Total distance:approx 56 miles
Total elevation climbed: approx 1,800 feet
Pace: Medium: 17+ mph avg Category B/B+/A ride
Terrain: flatish to some rolling hills
Start/Finish: Fifth District Park (off New Market Turner Rd & Route 5) (off Rte 5 South heading toward Point Lookout) - carpooling recommended. 1+ hr from DC, closest metro is Branch Avenue 25 miles away. For those that want to co-ordinate carpooling from metro
Highlights: rolling farmland, Patuxent River, maybe some Amish horse & buggies.
The route can be viewed at the link below (subject to change):
I will have cue sheets available but it is recommended that you familiarize yourself with the ride route prior to the ride in case the group splits.
