VeloDCity Challenge - Ride #3 - Purcellville to the Plains - 53 miles - 3,600 ft

Event #3 of the VeloDCity Challenge -Purcellville to the Plains - the 1st longer ride of the year with 53 miles of rolling hills.

This is will be a B/A pace ride.

NOTE: A LIABILITY WAIVER WILL NEED TO BE SIGNED BEFORE THE RIDE - If you don't sign one you will not be allowed to participate in the ride - I will have waivers at the ride start.

This ride will take us south from Purcellville along some of the same rolling roads used on the Reston Century ride until we hit Snickersville Turnpike where we hit the 1st primary leg tester on Snickersville.  We will make our way into the historic town of Middleburg and continue south to the Plains.  Constant rollers here and the possibility of the southwest headwind can make it a decent challenge.

Our 1st and only rest stop will be around mile 24 in The Plains.

Continuing south for a few miles before looping back north (and potentially a nice tail wind) all the way back into Middleburg.  From there we hit a couple short leg testing climbs on Foxcroft and St Louis Roads before more rollers back into Purcellville.

Total distance:approx 53 miles

Total elevation climbed: approx 3,600 ft
Pace: Medium: 15-17 mph avg (slower going up, faster going down); Category B/A ride
Terrain: lots of rollers, a few short testing climbs
Start/Finish: Loudoun Valley High School, Purcellville, VA

Highlights: country roads, farm land

We can grab some food post ride in Purcellville for those that want to.

Thanks for another brilliant ride, Matt! You have a great eye for gorgeously challenging terrain. And a special thank you to the many VeloDCity members who helped me patch up my body and bike after a sudden fall. I'm honored to be riding with such a fine group of people.

I'll be coming from East of DC along 50/495/7 or 267. I'd have room for one person and bike.

Freaking Spinning really does a lot of false sense of confidence. ;-)
Thanks for the real life leg wake-up call Matt.

Matt, thanks for the route and organizing the ride. My legs did not perform as well as I'd like but still a great fun.
    And the weather was perfect.

Thanks everyone for participating. I have to apologize profusely to those that I accidentally sent off onto some Paris Roubaix training due to a bad cue sheet.

Thanks Matt for organizing this ride. Unfortunately, my small car is already packed with my bike and gear. Otherwise, I could have given someone a ride. Got what I needed to get done tonight and got SecDef approval to go on the ride tomorrow ;). Look forward to the ride and meeting other cyclists.

If someone has space, I could also use a ride. I'm coming from Old Town Alexandria, but can easily also meet up in Arlington or DC.

Looking forward to this ride, just wish the drive there wasn't so long. Oh well, his will burn off the wine from tonight.

I'll likely be adding 20 to 30 miles in North Loudoun after this ride. We can talk tomorrow if you are interested. Just thought I would put the word out here.

I'm on the waitlist, but if that changes I'd love to catch a ride with someone. I live in DC near Logan Circle. Fingers crossed a space opens and I get a lift. Thanks!

Tish - I live in Shirlington. If we can figure a place to pick you up somewhere in between us then you have a ride. Of course, I'll drive you home afterwards.

Thinking I wouldn't get off the wait list I made other plans so won't need a lift. This is a gorgeous ride--have fun!

Curious if I could catch a ride with anyone to Purcellville? I can pay for gas, and I'll throw in great conversation for free.

Thanks Matt for everything that you have done. Regretfully, I'm already committed to working at the Cherry Blossom festival that day but hope to see you all soon.

I may not be doing this ride due to me taking test. If I am definitely taking test, I will change my RSVP.
