Melo Velo beginners' road ride

This is a ride for beginners. All female riders are welcome for socializing and support, but this is an easy, beginner, getting-used-to-road-biking ride. You'll learn shifting, group riding (don't worry, we stay way behind each other) and how to drink from your water bottle while riding, in a very non-competitive environment. Meet at Woodside Town Hall in Woodside.  We'll ride north on Canada Road and return -- 15 miles, mostly flat with little rollers.

Can we have something like this again soon!

    1 · September 22, 2013

    • Pooja

But will there be a beginner's ride too? I have not really done bike riding in the US yet.

Pooja! Melo Velo IS our beginner ride. This ride meet every Sunday (year round). You'll see it on the meetup calendar.

As a beginner, I would also recommend our Bike Skills 101 clinic. The next one is on September 29th and we're also offering it on November 2nd.

    Hi Ladies,

I had to attend to a family issue so could not make the ride in time, but I'll surely meet up with you another time. Hope it was really fun.

Flat tire again, maybe a slow leak- but I'm worried to ride on it. Heading to bike shop later. See you next time :) have a great ride!!

Kelly, in the future, if something like this happens, let the ride leader know and show up a bit early. The ride leader should be able to help you change a flat.

Hi ladies, welcome to the VG beginner Melo Velo ride.!

It may sprinkle a bit tomorrow so a light wind/rain breaker may be of use. See you tomorrow and don't forget to pump your tires.

Oh good! Because I don't have any rain proof clothing.. yet. Any good affordable cycling apparel recommendations?

      1 · September 21, 2013

    • Lorri Lee L.

Meg, unless riding in a downpour for an extended period of time, "rainproof" clothing is probably overkill. I have a theory about rain gear: you'll either get wet from the inside (sweat) or wet from the outside (rain). For amazing outerwear (including rain gear), check out Pactimo:

Hi Pooja! Given how early this ride is, it will probably be necessary for you to pick up a rental bike the day before.

Couple of things....you might want to do a google search for Rental bikes in the city where you live OR...if you have good credit you can do over to Mike's Bikes and get a nice roadbike and use the 12 months no interest program they have.
