Do you have a favorite freethought 'hero'?

Absolutely... lots of writers and philosophers but I'm a musician and so "hero" status has to go to Greg Graffin, PhD, of Bad Religion who writes some of the most erudite lyrics out there, likely flying over the heads of the majority of the audience but thinkers like Dr. Graffin give me tremendous hope.

What's the stupidest religious idea you've ever heard?

Hard to pick one, really... so easy to pick on Islam and Mormons but I think Christians who believe literal words in whatever version of "the bible" is the most moronic, given that it was written by people and translated numerous times, losing meaning and allowing for personal agendas to twist interpretations. Anyone who has translated one text to another contemporary and related language knows this.

When did you first admit to being an atheist?

It's a personal policy of mine to decline discussion of religious beliefs with people who can't be open intellectually (I make a joke of it and say "I check the 'other' box" or that" I'm allergic to religion, sorry!").

Introduction

Hi everyone! I'm with the Ventura Humanists and it was suggested that I check out your group too because you tend to meet in Ventura or nearby vs. Thousand Oaks or farther out. I very much want to participate in discussion groups.
