to deal or not to deal with theists is the question

Depending on whom you read the US population is 14% atheist and 86% theist.  It is amazing to me that people most of us would consider smart can be so dense regarding a belief system that has no evidence to support it and can be so easily shown to be illogical and nonsensical.   My only explanation for this is that we have compartmentalized brains just like a computer.  Some aps are very good others are not.  Logic does not work for those folks and as much as I regret it, faith (a belief that cannot be proven) is an amazingly powerful ploy.  Also I am not so sure that religiosity is  totally under the individuals control.  Our parents, teachers, friends, place of birth etc.  have had a lot to do with it.  The capacity to be a truly independent thinker is rare.  Besides most people seem to need a god and to take it away from some, I am convinced would do more harm than good. Like Voltaire said, "If there is no god, we would have to invent one."    To cut yourself off from 86% of the population is not such a good idea.  You harm yourself more.  Gus the Born Again Atheist
