RE: [atheists-494] Does the Pope have a foot fetish?

It doesn't help when the tanker hits an iceberg like Prop 8, where voters (can you say "mob rule") try to freeze hypocrisy in time ... aided, of course, by millions from the Catholics to spread lies.  I think all it's proponents should ask themselves "Would slavery have been abolished by a voter referendum in the early 19th century?"

Honestly, I could give a rat's behind what the pope is doing ... and I don't think it's worthy of the energy it takes to move the electrons to carry this dialogue!

An organization of over a billion people, the oldest formal organization in the world, does not survive by making sudden, dramatic changes.  Look how long it took for women and Blacks to get the vote in the US.  Like our very smart pres said, social change is like trying to turn a huge oil tanker.

True,  Stan, I would agree, except for the fact that it is not a women's feet he's slobbering all over... Key word here is "juvenile".
Up until now I have had high hopes for change towards women in this religion being that  the pope's words and opinions affect women's rights, equality and safety in so many countries.
I want to see him wash the feet of a Nun or a Prostitute, then I'll believe he is showing the signs of being  progressive.

It was not a “girls’” detention center, it was a juvenile detention center, only 2 of the 12 prisoners whose feet he washed were females’.  Since the ceremony has traditionally been limited to males, this is actually a very progressive, pro-feminine act on his part, in an institution that does not usually recognize the equality of females.

Seems kind of creepy to me. He's washing the feet of inmates at a girls' juvenile detention center. Check out the link to the AP article.

Enjoy,

Rob
