April Meetup

It's time to get excited for our next Verge event! We've got some really exciting startups pitching this month, a fireside chat presenter who I think you're all really going to like, and a sponsor that's doing really cool things right here in West Lafayette.

To start off we have Kevin Lee, a young Purdue student, pitching his startup, TappedIN. If you're a fan of craft beer, you're going to love Kevin and his startup.

Next we have Matt Maxwell & Phil Wright with IntelliHire. These guys just got back from being accepted to NEXT @ SXSW, where a handful of exciting new startups get a chance to go through a hands-on crash course with amazing mentors like Steve Blank!

For our Fireside Chat we are happy to have our own Jon Perl. Jon went to Purdue, and two years later had his startup acquired. Brilliant guy - if you haven't already had a chance to meet him, you're going to be impressed.

Finally, none of this could have happened without this month's sponsor, Purdue Tech Ventures.

Tech Ventures, founded by Matt McKillip and Lonnie Bentley, is an on campus, mentor driven accelerator, offering personalized and free assistance to student and faculty projects by experienced entrepreneurs to help foster their innovations through to successful startups or products.

They're just recently proud to announce that Purdue students will be able to take the same Lean Launchpad course that is taught by Steve Blank at Berkeley, right here at Purdue in the fall! Any student is welcome to take the class, but they have to be ready to buckle down, and put in the work. This isn't talking about entrepreneurship, this is coming in with an idea and coming out the other end with a business. If you have questions, be sure to check out their site - http://www.purduetechventures.org/ - or pull them aside at this month's meeting!

Matt and Lonnie are doing awesome things at Purdue with Purdue Tech Ventures, and we are proud and thankful to have them as our next sponsor. Thanks, Tech Ventures!

With that, I look forward to seeing you all for some good pizza, casual networking, and great pitches!

Cheers,
Mike

The presentations were interesting. Hearing them was a quite a challenge as the Mad Mushroom atmosphere is quite noisy. So either the speakers need to be mic'd or speak up; same for questions from the audience. The name badges and color-coded stickers were a good idea. It gave a bit of a 'stimuli' for networking. Though there could be more done in encouraging the networking aspect. Overall it was a good meeting. I made at least two solid contacts.

Well attended. Looked like at least 40 people were in attendance. The presentations were interesting - though hearing them was a real challenge (Mad Mushroom is too noisy!!). Networking opportunities are good, w/ more people in attendance. I would like to see a greater emphasis on introductions of WHOM is there to maximize the networking opportunities.

I have to comment on the title for this thing. "April Meeting". It shows up in my Google Calendar as that, not telling me which group. Next time, think you could mark it as "Verge West lafayyet May Meeting"?
