Very good again. And thanks for the free tshirt! I am wearing it now as I settle down to a solid day of writing unit tests :|

    1 · December 17, 2013

    • Michael B.

Yes, it should be... but I am retro-fitting a php site written by 5-years-ago-me, almost completely procedural, using globals all over the place, more side-effects than a box of anti-depressants. Just figuring out how to test some of this stuff is giving me headaches!

      1 · December 17, 2013

    • Arpad B.

In that case don’t be afraid of rewriting it from scratch :-)

Thanks for the great meetup all! Just a short follow-up on yesterday's shout-out: the first BrnoJS meetup is on Tuesday the 14th of January (www.meetup.com/BrnoJS/events/[masked]/). The easiest, most comfortable and cheapest way to reach Brno is by bus via Student Agency (http://www.studentagency.eu/).

We are also looking for speakers, so if you want to do a talk, drop a comment on the Meetup page or shoot me an e-mail at [masked].

It was a pleasure - count me in for the next events ;) Thx for the Tshirt & the ORGA!

I never ran into a deadlock / multithreading problem so far. Ringo's programming model keeps you away of this "dirty" work and tries to avoid dangerous situations. But if you want to show that multithreaded JS can also produce a deadlock, here we go:

Wow, thank you so much for the great feedback I got after my talk, I guess my point to “challenge everything” got through :-)

So the slides are here: https://slid.es/swatinem/anti

    2 · December 16, 2013

    • Arpad B.

Haha, and the most important thing: Challenge yourself! Like the “code shame” Franz talked about. If you are not ashamed of it, you have no way to improve yourself.

Hi, cool, we have 8 announced talks on the meetup wall and two more in my inbox and two from previous meetups who said they want to do it in dec.

that is 12 talks. all of them sound awesome. we have room for 5 talks. talk-wohlstandsproblem hilfsausdruck. first-world-meetup-issues.

how do we deal with this:

    1) all previous promises/zusagen written or verbal about a talking spot at the dec. meetup are now void. sorry 'bout that!

    2) everybody (who hasn't down so already) with a talk proposal please announce on the meetup wall until wed[masked]:00. (please keep them coming)

    December 1, 2013

    • Franz E.

      3) i will email everyone a few questions about their talk (probably at the 4th) 4) based on that feedback i and co-org thomas will each create a list, match that lists and choose an algorithm to decide what talks are a go.

the goal is to have a diverse topics of talks, some front-endy stuff, some tec deep dive, some back-endy stuff, some product stuff, some dev processes stuff, some controversial stuff, some meta stuff, maybe even some mobile dev stuff and some javascript robots stuff (hint!)

and all of them with a strong JS focus (we need to see some code)

ok, 1000 thx for all your enthusiasm, your time and your love (well, or at least affection) for JS and awesome code.

      cheers franz, viennajs orga
p.s.: i thought about doing some kind of moderator style vote-talks-up-app, then i realised that i dont believe into that network-effect-pseudo-democratic-like-upvote-stuff-concept. but well, you can convince me otherwise (for future meetups)

Hi there! We'd love to stop by on December 16. We've specialized in browser-based document manipulation, and if you're interested we could give a short talk about our project Substance, which is 100% Javascript and actively developed since 3 years as an Open Source project.

    Here's some background info:

    http://substance.io/#blog/the-state-of-substance

    And a hands-on tutorial:

    Cheers from Linz,

    Hi.
I could prepare an angular-talk (though i've seen there has been one in june).
Is there any interest for that?
Alternatively, I could offer a TDD live-hacking session instead.

    1 · November 28, 2013

    • Thomas F.

still interested. Maybe a combination of TDD with angular.js and how to setup and prepare a project for deploy to production. But, just an idea...

      November 28, 2013

    • Robert P.

ok, angular tdd-style it is :-)
that will include jasmine and karma

      November 29, 2013

  • Thomas F.

I hope i can make it to continue with a talk with the next step to a new and shiny viennajs.at site.
First step: Data Model and Data Migration - check
Next: Project / Dev Setup with Express. OAuth.io Setup.

    Hi guys,

I can prepare a short talk about how we're using JavaScript magic in our iPad web app (WebSQL, localStorage, HTML5 cache manifest) to compete with native apps. I will also include some examples how whole MV* concept and dependency management and why we ditched jQuery :)
