Welcome to the Vietnamese Language and Cultural Meetup Group!

Our group meets once a month: We meet once a month formally but have lots of little meetups of different interests throughout the month. So there is something for everyone. There have been meetups in restaurants, billiards/games bars, like Fat Cats, parks and Chelsea Piers, for example. Members are invited to suggest a specific venue, if it is a restaurant, it does not necessarily have to be Vietnamese, but try to be specific about location, type and price. Many of our members like to have a Happy Hour before the event and then go to the actual event itself. Most of the time we will do something after an event to continue the evening.

We also go to cultural events. Past events include those sponsored by NY Vietnamese School, Columbia University, NYU, the Vietnamese church in Chinatown, the Asia Society and IVCE (Institute for Vietnamese Culture & Education) and other organizations. If you know of any event you would like the rest of the members to attend, post it on the message board. We can post it as an "Informal Event" so that people can RSVP and know who can go and who can't. "Calendar" is the way to see what's going on in addition to our bi-monthly meetups.

Feel free to go through the message boards and add any feedback that would be helpful to the group. It is a good forum for sharing ideas and thoughts. Do you have a flier of upcoming events or Vietnamese text for people to practice reading? Go to the "Files" link and post it for all to see.

You can see how much fun we're having to get a more personal sense of the group in the photos section. This is the fun part of bringing your camera and being a paparazzi! We'll even pose for you, without being asked, just like the celebs! :-)

As organizers, we like to try to practice speaking Vietnamese at these gatherings while having a great time. If you don't speak Vietnamese very well, let's try at these events so that you can become better at it. Some of us don't speak Vietnamese well and we are attending the New York Vietnamese School that the meetup helped start. If you are rusty at it, don't worry, we will help you and ourselves. Don't be shy about speaking the language, after all, that's what we are about!
