Schaffhausen & Rheinfall Photography Trip

Although it's currently snowing like mad outside - warmer days do lie ahead! Let's get out with our cameras and enjoy a day of photography and sight-seeing near the Swiss-German boarder up in Schaffhausen.

We'll meet at the Schaffhausen Bahnhof meeting point at 10:45. This should give you late-risers enough time to stumble out of bed and stagger to the train station after a ruckus Saturday night.

We'll wander through the Schaffhausen old-town and up the steep steps of the 16th century Munot Fortress to get a panoramic view of Schaffhausen, the Rhein river and beyond. After a lunch stop in Schaffhausen's old-town we'll take the bus over to Europe's largest waterfall - the Rheinfall.

Costs: Take a look at www.sbb.ch to get an exact idea for your individual train costs. If you plan to join us for the side-trip to the Rheinfall - then you'll need to purchase the supplemental zone tariff for Schaffhausen. Unfortunately Schaffhausen isn't part of the ZVV network, so don't buy the "after 9:00" discount ticket. I just checked the "city-to-city" option with the "city supplement for destination." The ticket from Zurich HB and back should cost 26.60 (with half-tax). The only other cost to be aware of is for your lunch, and perhaps the optional ferry boat to "the Rock" in the middle of the Rhein (CHF 8.00 for adults).

Dress comfortably and bring a smile. :-) Comfy shoes are always a good idea. Because we'll be on foot most of the day, less is more. However, if you want to play around with some long exposures of the moving water, you may need a neutral density filter and a tripod. Matt will bring along his laptop for picture review - and (if time allows), we can do some informal feedback over a beer or coffee. Bring a friend if you like!

I will try and get there on the train arriving at 10:14 (from Ulm), but if I miss the connection, I won't be able to get there until 10:54. Perhaps someone could PM me their mobile number in case I don't manage to meet you on time ... or recognize the other members? (it's my first time at a meetup)
