Appalachian Trail

This is am awesome scenic ride that will take us through northern portions of Maryland along the Appalachian mountains. There will be something for everybody. A bit of wide open highway, back roads with a 55mph speed limit, twistys, sweeps, small towns etc... The highlight is a stretch through the Catoctin mountain park, not far from Camp David. Maybe we'll make a stop there, I'm sure we'll be more than welcome at the presidential retreat....

ROUTE

Meeting at KSB at 9:30 and leaving by 10:01

This is a mid-range ride (~200 miles) so come prepared. Fuel up and make sure the bikes are running in their tip-top shape...tires filled, batteries charged, oil topped, etc. We'll certainly make stops every so often and we'll have a major stop for lunch about half way through the route. See you all there!

P.S. 267 is a toll road. Please bring cash so we can collect it ahead of time and go through the tolls faster. I think its ~$8 total for the two tolls we go through.

I've limited the max number of people to 15. It becomes increasingly challenging to lead larger groups. If anybody steps up to lead another group, I'll increase the limit to 30, etc...

Awesome ride, couldn't ask for anything better. Thank you all for coming out and behaving like civilized, responsible adults. Special thanks to Ken, Chris and Ed for make the entire thing go nice and smooth.

Hope some of you might have gotten motivated to sweep, lead on an upcoming ride.
Thinking of starting a "Lead a ride - get a free T-shirt" program!

I'm now not sure if I'll be able to go, so I just changed to no. Sorry for holding the spot for so long. Hope I can go, but if I can't make it, have a fun ride.

I will assist with the ride if needed.

Anticipating around 10 riders in my group that might want change from a 10 to cover the $8 tolls, I picked up 20 singles from the bank. Teller asked why I needed all the singles - and I paraphrased Fat Joe saying I was on a budget, but wanted to make it rain on them enterprising undergraduate coeds. So I have some singles. Oooooowwwww!

A couple of comments below you seems to suggest its a 6 hour venture. 4PM would be a good estimate.

Will there be a fast and slow group tomorrow? I don't want to hold anyone up.

    • Boris

We'll figure it out. But you've ridden with us before and know that there is a wide tolerance for the "moderately paced" people.

Ken was nice enough to offer his expert skills and take another group of 15!

Ken is leading a group and THEN after the ride, he is picking up the trailer. So yall better play nice so he gets back on time!

What's the pace like? I am debating this ride or knock out 300 miles or so of my So. MD routes at a quick pace.

  • John

Boris, any ideas how long the ride will be?

    April 23

Sorry, Apex asked me to lead demo rides at Coleman's Woodbridge this Saturday so I won't be able to join you all. Have fun and be safe. After y'alls ride, you should stop by as they are having their annual open house out there.

Wow 6 on wait list already. :-(

That's a great route - I hate to miss it, but I've already paid for the track Sunday and I pickup the trailer Saturday afternoon and gotta prep the bike. Next time. Enjoy!!!

Have a great day at the track, Ken!

      1 · April 22

    • P.A.

I think you have a better route Ken. Enjoy! :D

      April 22

  • Boris

Sorry all, but I want to try to have smaller, more manageable groups.
Maybe this will motivate a few people to step up and help out (as I mentioned in the email).
Please do not take offense if you didn't get a spot.
