DCSMS Walk - October 23, 2010 - Save the Date!

2010 DC Stop Modern Slavery Walk

We now have our own team! Please register under "Join a Team" and then look for VA Stop Modern Slavery. This is a simple way to show your support for stopping modern day slavery. Let's make our VA team a major presence on October 23rd!! Register today and then email your friends and family to join you in October. The walk is an annual event organized by the community to raise awareness and funds for the fight against human trafficking. It includes a walk, speakers, information fair, art exhibit, and music concert. This event is an opportunity for the entire DC Area anti-human-trafficking community to get together with elected officials, artists, luminaries, businesses, professional athletes, and the community to celebrate the cause and galvanize the movement. All money raised will go towards raising awareness about and combating human trafficking in the DC Area.

When: Saturday, October 23, 2010.

Where: Constitution Gardens, which is the area next to the Lincoln Memorial.

Who: All are welcome to walk and participate! This event is organized by DC Area community volunteers. We hope all VASMS members will be there. For questions and to get involved, please contact [masked].

How: Please save the date: Saturday, 9/18/2010. Check back at for the new website.

History: The 2009 DC Walk was the first anti-human trafficking walk and biggest anti-human trafficking event in Washington DC history. It attracted over 700 participants and raised over $40,000.

Please save the date and start spreading the word. There will be more information coming on specifics of how the VASMS group will support this cause, but the DC group is having a meeting tomorrow. Here are the specifics:

It was so great to come together with like-minded people you want to see the injustices stopped and want to see 27 million slaves brought to freedom!
