Announcing a new Meetup for Virginia - Stop Modern Slavery (VASMS)!

What: Human Trafficking in the State of Virginia: A Multi-Disciplinary Approach

When: Wednesday, August 4,[masked]:00 PM

Where: (A location has not been chosen yet.)

Come out and hear Michelle Crawford Rickert speak about ending human trafficking in Virginia. She is an Assistant Professor at Liberty University where she teaches two classes on Human Trafficking and Modern Day Slavery. As an attorney she looks at the problem through the lens of the law; however, understands the need for a multi-disciplinary approach to solving the problems of human trafficking domestically and internationally.

Professor Rickert has written two scholarly works on this topic last year which can be found here: She has lectured about human trafficking at a variety of places including 2009?s Oxford Round Table, and in 2010 she addressed a group of 400 at a benefit for Stop Child Trafficking. Currently her projects include drafting comprehensive legislation for the State of Virginia, and founding the Virginia Coalition Against Human Trafficking which hopes to link all the various groups in Virginia into one large grassroots movement to finally eradicate slavery in Virginia.

The location is still to be determined, but please mark your calendars!
