When did you first start writing songs?

Violin lessons in 6th grade really kicked off my love of songwriting. Classical pieces like Vivaldi’s The Four Seasons inspired me to begin writing and recording original compositions. I would listen to my favorite pieces over and over, until I could play the different instrument parts on my violin. Then, with my violin and an old double cassette recorder, I'd record all the parts and play along. I thought I was a weirdo at the time, I had no idea I would actually study it in college later!

Is there a song you wish you wrote?

"Someone Like You" by Adele. I absolutely love piano/vocal ballads, and believe this to be the best song of this genre to become mainstream since "I Will Always Love You." There's no way to listen to this song without feeling a little punch in the tummy! :)

What's one fun fact about you people wouldn't know?

My first job out of high school was an Oral Surgery Assistant!

Are you more of a lyrics first or music first writer?

The melody is always the first thing that comes to me. Once I've worked out the chords, some of the lyrics start to fall into place. I'm OCD with lyrics though, so I usually wait until the song form is in place before I settle on lyrics.

Do you write in one specific genre or more than one?

I try to keep it as versatile as possible, but my songs tend to fall into pop/electronic genre. I'd love to write a good country song though.

I'm a singer/songwriter living in Chicago, IL. I studied violin, mandolin, voice, and production, and in '06 released my first recording -
