This is for those who have yet to attend a Meet-Up. The basics are extremely important and the understanding of those basics dictate whether or not one cares to pursue this adventure. This is a 3 hour seminar that introduces the skills required to pursue a career in voice acting. We will be discussing The Big 3: Physical, Technical and Psychological. Here is a great opportunity to evaluate your potential and help you decide if voice acting is worth your time and commitment. Everyone will get a chance to read & record some copy. It may be an advertisement, Children’s story or even the local weather. You will receive your raw audio with direction via email a few days after the meet up. You will also receive the now famous DVA Newbie's Handout, packed with info, exercises and demo scripts as well as my pal John Florian's awesome voiceoverxtra.com pencils! Wow! You will leave with a clear understanding of this industry, where it is going and what is needed to hop on board.

Here is your chance to learn & practice the fine art of Cross Reading (Frick/Frack). This is a fun and exciting approach to getting your client's message across in a very casual, compelling and audience inclusive manner. Cross reading is a calculated form of silliness that is very easy to listen to, yet often difficult to pull off. You hear it all the time, all across the radio dial. Ralphy And Razor can be heard all over Dallas doing everything from Star-Power Home Entertainment to Supermarkets and Men's clothing stores. This takes a keen sense of timing, and fair amount of simple ad lib ability. Cross reading is essential when trying to squeeze the most amount of copy in a limited amount of time. Overlapping the copy allows a more natural form of time-compression and is a must know/understand process for all successful Voice Actors and Announcers. Cross reading also comes into play for just about all styles of animation reads. This too requires practice and a great sense of timing. I have all new scripts and will be pairing up members for the best chemistry. As in the past, this event will fill very quickly, so RSVP early to ensure your place and get ready to shred! Remember that only 12 members per event will be admitted. See you there!

I will not be doing a produced mix of the reads during these meet ups. This is about evaluation. All direction will be included in your audio in real time! Each attendee will have the opportunity to record one 30 sec. read. (Maybe 2 if time permits) This is the perfect opportunity to start building or add to, your demo reel, as each spot recorded will be fully produced and returned to your email address within 1 week of the meet up... maybe sooner. Greetings Group! The Newbie's are acclimated! It's time to move ahead.
In a BIG WAY! MONDAY June 1st & 2nd 7:00 PM TO 10:30 PM RSVP EARLY! This Meet-Up will combine 3 elements. Tech!
Reading!!
Recording!!! We will begin by building a home studio. (Yes, I will remember to bring an amplifier). This building will be quick and we will not be focusing on the actual set up, but rather the pieces within the audio chain. Each piece will be discussed. Be ready to take notes and ask questions.
We will have in operation: • A Mac G5 and a projected image of software in use.
• 1 Mackie 1204 VLZ Mixing Board
• 1 Microphone
• 1 limiter/compressor
• 1 Digi002 rack (ProTools LE)
• 1 Audio Amplifier
• 1 Pair Speakers
• 1 Set Headphones (PLEASE FEEL FREE TO BRING YOUR OWN!!)
• 1 Microphone w/ screen, Mic stand and copy stand
• 1 Pr. Audio Speakers As stated earlier, the building of the studio will be quick. Come early if you want to watch (recommended) From 7:00 to 8:30:
We will be discussing the purpose and benefits of each piece used. Build a beginning template and discuss basic operations of ProTools LE. From 9:00 to 10:30:
We will be recording 1 spot per member. You will receive the spot shortly after the meet up (yeah, right... ok maybe a week, but you will get it). You MAY bring your own script (allowing time for practice), but it MUST time out to :30 seconds. We will be stopping at exactly 10:30 so organization is a must.
