Basic Volleyball Doubles Skills Clinic

This clinic costs $10 per person. Payment details below.

This Basic Doubles Skills Clinic is entry-level in a series of clinics for beginners through advanced doubles players. This is your chance to learn doubles!

This basic clinic is entry-level for doubles, but it is not for beginning/inactive sixes volleyball players. If you haven't played 10 hours of volleyball in 2014, then you are not ready for this clinic. We expect you to serve a ball in-bounds >75% of the time. Intermediate/Advanced (BB/A) doubles players are also welcome. We focus on the highlighted basic doubles skills listed below. By practicing these skills, you will gain the confidence to compete well at B-level or above in local grass doubles tournaments, possibly even the QK series (A-level). With these clinics you will gauge which level you're playing at and get a sense of how your skills compare with others'.

The format of these clinics is 80% drills, 20% instruction on grass surface. Each clinic is two hours long. As a bonus, we provide you a net you can practice on after the clinic ends. We will run this clinic on a women's height net.

Coach Matt has been playing doubles for 20 years. He competes at A/AA level. He has learned volleyball coaching skills in the HITS and FullSpeed programs. Matt co-runs Meetup QK A/AA Doubles Tournaments with Brian Lee.

This is probably the last time in 2014 that this Basic level clinic will be offered. Please sign up as an individual. If you wish to bring a guest, please have them register in Meetup and sign themselves up; but any qualified person showing up with cash will not be turned away. We need a minimum of 5 registrants to run this clinic, so it's good to get your friends to sign up.

Payment: Signing up for this event is not a commitment; it simply expresses your positive interest in it. We accept $10 cash when you arrive at the event. We offer a huge 40% discount (cost: $6) only if you pay at least two hours in advance. Online payment: Google Wallet to [masked] or PayPal to [masked]. If you prefer, I can have Wallet/PayPal email you an invoice; just email me so I have your email address.

Weather. We run these events outdoors on good-weather days only. Do not send any message or post any comment asking/speculating if weather could affect the event. We organizers always keep close watch on the weather forecast. As appropriate, we post comments in these events. Meetup promptly forwards those comments to all registrants via email. Do keep in mind that weather forecasts can and do change, and the situation may warrant a delayed decision. If the event is canceled (e.g. weather), we refund 100% prepaids.

Please arrive on time or 15 minutes early for warm-up. It is optional but would be appreciated if you show up 30 minutes early to help coach set up net(s).

These clinics are offered independently by Matt BenDaniel. They are administrated under Meetup but are not officially sanctioned by any group.

What you should bring:

• Outdoor shoes with nubby tread.

• Your outdoor volleyball. We prefer Spaulding King of the Beach or Wilson Official AVP. Please do not bring indoor volleyballs. Coach will bring plenty of extra volleyballs.

• Water. There is no reliable source of drinking water near the site.

Coming by car, park in second lot past Eliot Bridge. Coming by public transit, exit at Harvard Square, then walk/bike JFK across river, turn right immediately on bike path and walk one mile, crossing under Eliot bridge. We're past the kayak rental.
