We are now based in both Maryland AND DC. There are meetups available on Thursday nights at Upper County Community Center on Emory Grove Road in Gaithersburg. There is an open gym for VB on Wednesday nights from 6 pm until 9 pm at Longwood Community Center on Georgia Avenue in Olney, Maryland. On Wednesdays, there is an OPEN gym for VB at Bauer Rec Center from 815-945PM. Bauer Rec Center is on Bauer Drive in Rockville. Leland Comm Center on Willow Drive in Bethesda re opens for VB on Monday nights from 6-10 PM as well.

ALL of these volleyball venues require that the patrons buy an Open Gym ACCESS picture ID card. In county (Montgomery County, Md.) runs $30 per person PER YEAR......out of county runs $40. However, once acquired, you can use it at Leland, Bauer, Longwood, Upper County and about 4-8 other gyms in Montgomery County. All have abundant parking, AC, bathrooms, water fountains & most have two courts for pickup.
Additionally, there are outdoor sand courts at Olney Manor Park directly off of Georgia Avenue on your right heading north, just north of Emory Church Road, about 2 miles north of Leisure World (aka Seizure World or Geezer World)(two courts with night lighting).
There are the 11 sand courts on the Ellipse area just south of the Kennedy Center as well as
the TWO courts with lights on Crystal Drive in Crystal City/Arlington, Va.
There are two or three sand courts at the Denton Beach, which is part of the Elkton high rise dorms directly across from the Eppley Recreation Center at the University of Maryland in College Park (no nite lighting). Additional sand courts are around in singles. Please let me know when you find another one so I can update the database.
I found us a gym at the Silver Spring offices of the Md Park and Planning Commission but it will run us $30 per hour to rent it out. I need a regular group of players to commit to a weekly night of, say, two or three hours there in order to rent it out for this group. The gym is available for rental, Monday thru Fridays from 10 am until 11 PM at night. Please get back to me with your thoughts and if you are willing to commit to a regular weekly gig, with each of us paying a per night entry portion.
Those who have used the Turkey Thicket Rec Center, on Monroe Street, NE, 3 blocks from the CUA/Brookland Metro station, please get in touch with me with feedback about the facility. They have pickup VB on Tuesday and Thursday evenings but only on ONE court. I don't know the level of play here. I am looking to find Metro accessible locations for our membership since right now most venues I know of are in Montgomery County.
I assume that Jelleffs picks up again after Labor Day. This assumes that you don't mind paying $7 every Monday to play for 2-3 hours. Is that correct?
Re Virginians and anyone hungry to play VB almost every night; John Adams Elementary School on Rayburn Drive in Alexandria Used to have open gyms on Monday and Wednesday nights from 7:15 to 9:45 PM. They no longer do so. Apparently, Wakefield High School is open on Mondays but that is about it for close in Metro accessible sites to play VB in Northern Virginia.
Please get back to me with your comments and feedback and positive reinforcement. I do this because I hate calisthenics. SO, instead, I play Volleyball and salsa. It sure beats exercising for the sake of exercise. I look forward to meeting you all on various courts in the area.
A question for all members; Would you all be up for going out after games for some cold ones, some pub grub and to rehydrate and socialize some or are you ALL about roundball and spiking and facials? IF you are up for some post workout socializing, please let me know. I will contact local watering holes and see if I can work out a group discount for us bringing them our business on a regular basis.
Kindly hit me back. I wanna know if you all are still breathing out there. Best wishes to you all and please stay cool in this subtropical swamp we call metro DC and home.
