Volunteers Needed to Help Facilitate the "Mobile Market" every 4th Friday

The Mobile Market is a program designed to bring free fresh foods and other perishable groceries to low-income individuals (at or below 200% of federal poverty guidelines) in high need areas.  This market-day event will serve up to 100 residents of the complex.

 5-10 volunteers are needed for:

*Set-up (4-6 tables)

*Unloading food from containers onto tables and refreshing the stock as needed (they mentioned they usually have 50 lb. bags of potatoes that need to be opened and displayed on the tables)

*Assisting with sign-in/tracking forms to ensure we have record of those who shop

*Assisting shoppers as needed (helping them put food in their bag if they are using a walker, etc.)

*Clean Up (pack up any food that has not been distributed and cleaning up tables)

>> Please Note: Volunteers need to be able to lift (up to 50), be comfortable working with senior citizens in a 'shopping-type' enviroment, and enjoy  being in the 'senior community'. <<

(It will be indoors until the weather is nice enough to conduct it outdoors and is set-up like a Farmer’s Market.)

The Mobile Market is scheduled to begin on March 28th and run on the 4th Friday of every month from 9 a.m.-12 Noon.

Agreed, Mike, and the event was well organized for the first time. I hope the residents appreciated it. I'm looking forward to next month!

I am so sorry, but my husband's doctor has asked him to come in on Friday morning. I drive him and will therefore be unable to participate in the Mobile Market this time. Have a great event. Again, so sorry. --Cecelia

I would love to help out w. this, but lifting big items/heavy items is not a good idea for me...
    Would I still be welcome?

    • Amanda R.

Absolutely! There are many tasks that don't require lifting such as sorting of food or assisting with signing in shoppers. We'd love to have your help!

In California I volunteered with the Community Produce Program (through the Contra Costa/Alameda County Food Bank) bringing fresh produce to the community on trucks at high school parking lots. This sounds similar. I speak Spanish. I would like to greet and help shoppers, but I am happy to help wherever needed. Please count me in!

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
