Spring is here and Gateway Greening needs your help! Gateway Greening (www.gatewaygreening.org) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to community development through community gardening. Since 1984, Gateway Greening has helped transform neglected and abandoned lots in St. Louis into productive gardens and beautiful landscaped areas. Our mission is to provide resources and training to neighborhood groups who believe in their communities and want to reclaim them from urban decay.
Their Urban Roots Downtown Median Project is May 11th and 12th. You will help to create a tropical paradise in the middle of downtown. This project has won awards and is growing in size and brilliance! So gather up your friends, family, and coworkers and come out to enjoy the weather, plant and help make down town beautiful!
What will you be doing?
-Planting ornamental plants that have been placed on the medians and at Kiener Plaza according to the landscape design. The plants are absolutely breathtaking!!
-Stacking plant pots for recycling and clean up after planting.
When and Where?
Friday May 11th from 8am to 1pm at Tucker Street Median across from City Hall
Saturday May 12th from 8am to 3pm Downtown at Kiener Plaza
What to bring?
-If you have a trowel or shovel, bring it along to use in planting.
-If you prefer to have gloves on while digging in the dirt-bring them.
-Make sure to bring plenty of water and snacks if you like.
They are in need of at least 100 volunteers for this event so spread the word, grab some guests and come out to help a great cause supporting STL!
If you are able to help with this project please do three things:
1. RSVP for this event.
2. Visit our message board (messages) and add a replay under the discussion titled ?Gateway Greening Urban Roots Project? indicating that you are attending. Then after the event, add another reply indicating the number of hours you participated in this event to add to our running tally.
2. Call the Gateway Greening office and leave a message with Theresa the office secretary letting her know you are coming so they can keep track of how many volunteers they have. The number to call is [masked].
If you have any questions, please let me know. This is a great organization that helps beautify neglected areas by sprucing them up and creating a sense of pride for the residents of our community. They are counting on volunteers to make this happen!!
