Spreading The Love And Compassion - Help The Homeless

HELP OUT IN YOUR COMMUNITY! DONATE OR VOLUNTEER. (Please read thoroughly)

DONATE: DRY GOODS ARE ALWAYS NEEDED AT NEW LIFE (CANNED FOOD, SOUPS, PASTA, ETC.) SO PLEASE DONATE OR SEND RYAN WOOLSEY AN EMAIL FOR A DONATION PICKUP. THANK YOU!

VOLUNTEER: COME OUT AND HELP HOMELESS PEOPLE by supplying them with food, water, and clean clothes on the streets. Meet us at New Life at 7pm; we meet inside on the 2nd floor for a short introduction (there will be someone at the front door to guide you to us) and then we will depart from the shelter and travel by vehicles to handout the supplies we have gathered. Safety first: We always stay together in groups, travel by car together, and have a good rapport with the people we help.

We would love to have your help. Also, we could use sandwiches or some other type of meal that we could pass out to the homeless people on the streets of St. Louis we see each week.  Please post a comment if you are interested in bringing some delicious food for our friends. Also, comment and specify if you will be bringing supplies, so we can make sure all the essentials are covered. Keep in mind that you are not obligated to bring supplies in order to participate. We are a loving group of people helping other people who are in need so please bring an open mind and an open heart.

"The girls are all asking when we can do it again. One of the girls with us tonight is visiting from Detroit and she want to find a group like this there. They were so humbled by what they learned tonight. They were so impressed to be able to hug and talk to people that they have actually been scared of before tonight. They have a sense of pride but more than anything a sense of compassion for these people that they never understood before. I am thankful for the opportunity to see these girls have a life changing experience at 17 and 18. They are talking about ideas of what to bring next time. They are going to shop together with their money they make from minimum wage jobs to make at least a day easier for a person that is more like them than they ever would have realized without this group. Truly inspirational."

PS-Kathleen - I have your cooler all cleaned up (the sauce did stain it a tiny bit even after soaking for 24 hours in bleach water). I wish I could've gotten it out completely. I'm sorry.

I had a great time the other night again. Such a neat group of people. I'm concerned for the people that we didn't find...from Biddle Street.
I want to share what my brother sent me about the experience his girls and they had, but I have too many words! next post.

I got a text yesterday saying the girls thought a freezer ziploc bag filled with soap, toothbrush/paste, wipes, deodorant,shampoo...all trial sized, will be what they bring next time. I think they are on the right track! I am so proud of them for quickly realizing what other's walk thru their whole lives without seeing.

It's such an honor to serve alongside amazing volunteers week after week. It always inspires me seeing the joy each of you bring to our homeless friends. So many touching moments: it's in a smile, a laugh, a hug, a prayer. As Lequisha said, we each come with our own trials I am reminded of a passage in James: "Dear bothers and sister, when troubles of any kind come your way, consider it an opportunity for great joy. For you know that when your faith is tested, your endurance has a chance to grow. So let it grow, for when your endurance is fully developed, you will be perfect and complete, needing nothing. If you need wisdom, ask our generous God, and he will give it to you. He will not rebuke you for asking. But when you ask him, be sure that your faith is in God alone. Do not waver, for a person with divided loyalty is as unsettled as a wave of the sea that is blown and tossed by the wind. Such people should not expect to receive anything from the Lord. Their loyalty is divided between God and th

Believers who are poor have something to boast about, for God has honored them...God blesses those who patiently endure testing and temptation. Thank you to everyone who attended last night for making it another successful outreach. I know our friends are excited to see us each week and it soothes my soul to see everything come together like this event does time after time. I am sure everyone would agree that Mike did an awesome job leading. Thank you to Cindy and Mary D for the sandwiches and Kathleen for the pasta entree. =]

As each of us go through our own tests and trials, situations, circumstances, whatever they may be; we must believe that as we help others, as God's will, we will be helped by others. Let God turn your test into a testimony. I pray for you all always. And I love you all! =]

Hi everyone! I have a few friends that also want to volunteer, but...they'd like to bring some of their kids.
It sure is a great thing to expose kids to, but wanted to make sure it is ok. By kids...I don't mean anyone under 12...is this ok? I told them I thought the kids would be welcomed...is this right? Sure would be a valuable lesson to teach the kids...give, give, help, give.
Plus my feelings are, it should be the parent's decision. But???
My brother has 10 cases of water to donate. I was given a bunch of clothes and disposable razors from a customer where I work...I have blankets and clothing...
Melissa and I will be coming next week....who knows what else we will have by then!
I keep thinking I'd like to cook a huge pot of spaghetti, only made with small macaroni noodles...maybe 8-10 pounds of meat....but, it is generally a hot meal, so any thoughts on what would be a better choice? Trying to think of things that people must miss and would be good to eat.
    Thanks!

    1 · June 20, 2014

One last thing...I overdid the pasta last time by leaving it in the water until the noodles were done (about 25 min)...they continued to cook and in my opinion were way too mushy. I would recommend removing the noodles after 10 min in the boiling water in the cooler they will likely still be a bit firm, but that's ok because they'll continue to cook with the sauce. Seriously though, our friends did not at all mind the mushy mostachioli. :) it was a fun experiment, and who knew it was possible!! Lol.

      2 · June 25, 2014

    • Kathleen

I had no idea Mary! lol I already cooked the pasta, but think when I heat it up, will just dump it into the cooler. Odd, but hey...whatever works! I'll bet there are many ways to do things we all could learn from our friends surviving on the streets. They don't have all the comforts of home so they have had to figure out different ways to do things.

    3 · June 22, 2014

Hey Anna, Are these hand wipes bulk (one package)? If so we can separate them into Ziploc sandwich bags.

      June 26, 2014

    • Anna

It's a big plastic bag with each of them separate in their own little white package. We certainly could do 5/bag...!

Hi CC, you aren't required to bring anything except love, compassion and openness to get to know our friends and listen to them. They usually just want to see us and converse; everything else is a bonus.
