Walk A Mile In Her Shoes fundraiser for the Domestic Violence and Child Advocacy

We're looking for a few real men who are not afraid to stand up to show their support against domestic violence--- and have a fun time while doing it.

The Walk A Mile In Her Shoes Fundraiser at Quicken Loans Arena is a  community march to help raise money to support the awareness and prevention of violence against women. The  Single Volunteers organization will be putting together a team to “walk a mile in her shoes” and, yes, the men will be asked to wear high heels. (Keep in mind that this is a fundraiser. Participating men are asked for a registration fee of $25).  The walk will be one mile around the Gateway Sports Complex.  Women and children are encouraged to participate in the walk also although I don’t think it will be quite as entertaining.

I have been an ardent supporter of the Domestic Violence and Child Advocacy Center for over a decade now and encourage their message and efforts in whatever small way I can. The Walk A Mile In Her Shoes fundraiser event not only helps get their message our to a larger segment of the public , but also allows to more people to  participate and have fun while helping.

Volunteers are needed in two areas: A team of to help with administrative and support duties starting at 4:30 or  to be on the Single Volunteer  team with Pat Percival as captain  (start practicing in your high heels now!) . Every paid walk participant will receive 4 complementary tickets to a Lake Erie Monsters game anytime during OctoberOther activities will include contests, music and refreshments.

UPDATE:

There are two ways to help with this event: Walk A Mile In Her Shoes with the Single Volunteer team or simply contribute to the DVCAC Fundraiser

Any interested guys are encouraged to join our team and to walk proudly with us. Please note though that there is a $25 entrance fee ( and you have to bring your own high heels) . Hey, c’mon now, this is the fun part of this event. Last year, we went to the Winking Lizard afterward for a drink, thinking that this would be fun. Maybe it’s a sign of the times, but no one there even batted an eye when we walked in. To sign up, you have to go to the DVCAC website and register for the Single Volunteers team.

To Register,please go to:

http://www.dvcac.org/register-walk?kwoTeamToJoinId=3ZY6DE3  or click HERE.

Participants also receive four fee tickets to an upcoming Cleveland Monsters game and admission to the party afterward at the Clevelander.

Since this is a fundraiser, the Single Volunteer team  could also use your financial support. To contribute ( and no amount is too small), simply go here:

http://dvcac.org/donate-walker or click HERE

Of course if you’d just like to join us to cheer the guys on ( and get a drink with us afterwards), you are certainly more than welcome to help there, too.

There is a party immediately afterwards at the Clevelander Bar and Grill ( 834 Huron, about a block or two away) and everyone is encouraged to attend.  Could be a pretty lively time and everyone is invited.

Or you can always come down to cheer us on and join us for an adult beverage at a nearby establishment afterwards.

From what I've been told, the DVCAC has the administrative functions pretty well covered and I'm not sure that they need any more help there. If you'd like to put on a pair of heels and walk with us, you are certainly more than welcome to come down. The Walk a Mile In Her Shoes event is designed to increase public awareness of the problems of domestic violence and is secondly ( or primarily depending on who you talk to), a fundraiser. If you'd like to walk with us, let me know and I'll give you the link to sign up. Registration is $25 and you'd need a pair of high heels. Costumes are optional. Two thirds of the participants wear pants with their high heels, many of our group takes it a step further with dresses. I'm wearing a suit coat, pink tutu and pink tights.

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
