HAPPY THANKSGIVING TO ALL SINGLE VOLUNTEER MEMBERS, FRIENDS AND FAMILY.
THURSDAY NOV 24 THANKSGIVING DAY
VOLUNTEER This Thanksgiving, help celebrate by helping those who may not have as much to be thankful for as you. This Thanksgiving, we have two events to choose from:
Fellowship Baptist Church, 1754 East 55th St. Help prepare, serve and deliver over 1000 meals to those who otherwise would not have a Thanksgiving dinner. This year you can help by doing any one of the following items: 1.) Provide a Cake, Cupcakes, Muffins, or Cornbread (we can make arrangements to obtain from you if you won't be present at the church that day) 2.) Come down and help prepare and serve the meals onsite. 3.) Stay and assist with the delivery of the meals to the homeless shelters and other relief sites. (Early to Mid Afternoon). For information or to sign up, contact Greg at email@example.com . Please note that this is a joint project with the FUNdraiser and New In Town Meetup groups. Shifts begin at 9:00 AM
St Augustine Hunger Center, 2486 W. 14th St. ( Tremont Area), Cleveland . The cooking starts at 4:00 AM and volunteers who would like to help deliver the food should plan on being there at 8:00 am for delivery assignments. St Augustine is also requesting that volunteers work in pairs so if you could enlist a friend, that would be terrific. For information or to sign up, please RSVP Michael at Mdhmessenger@aol.com Depending on the number of volunteers that sign up, you'll probably only have a few deliveries to make.
Thursday Nov. 24 Thanksgiving Day @2:00
SOCIAL: Share a meal with Cayomaw Singles Club and Single Volunteers at Demetrio's Family Restaurant, 7851 Broadview Road, Broadview Heights. Please RSVP to Scott G. at (440) 429-7002 or email: firstname.lastname@example.org.
FUNDRAISER: November to end of December
To benefit: St. Augustine Hunger Center
Questions: Mary Ellen at email@example.comIt's that time of year again when we ask for your assistance in helping St. Augustine Hunger Center. There are lots of statistics that support the ever-increasing need for places like St. Augustine's. For instance, in 2010, thirty seven million Americans including sixteen million children used some type of feeding agency. In the Cleveland area, of the 34% of households with children that were served, 79% of those families are food insecure - they don't know if or where the next meal is coming from. As we continue to face this economic crisis in the U.S. it is apparent that poverty knows no boundaries. There is a new population of people asking for help. Perhaps one of the most startling, recent statistics is that the poverty rate in Greater Cleveland suburbs has increased at least 40% compared to the inner city rate of 17%. The number of people living in extremely poor neighborhoods has grown faster in Northeast Ohio than anywhere else in the United States. More than 1/3 of people in these situations report having to choose between food and other basic necessities such as rent, utilities and medical care. Unfortunately many of our own members, family or friends have had to face the $6.9 billion in wage earnings that have disappeared in the last 5 years.Just as we are facing ever increasing bills, St. Augustine's is too. The Hunger Center is currently facing a $22,000 deficit in their hunger fund. SVO helps provide a little relieve by providing food for one meal each month, saving them about $2400 a year. We would like to continue to provide this assistance & we are asking for you help. If you are able, please consider making a donation to our check writing campaign. You can write a check (CHECK SHOULD BE MADE TO SINGLE VOLUNTEERS) and mail to: Joanne Solnick, c/o Empire Die Casting Co., Inc., 635 E. Highland Rd., Macedonia, OH 44056 or bring a check or cash to the December meeting. Whatever amount you are able to donate would be greatly appreciated and put to use to pay for food for St. Augustine Hunger Center. Thank you for your generosity and may God bless you.
