Do-It-Yourself Session at LeeHigh Autobody & Service Center

The Washington Volvo Club (WVC) continues the 2014 DIY series with a Do-It-Yourself (DIY) technical session at LeeHigh Autobody & Service Center in Dulles, VA from 8:30 AM to 1:00 PM on Saturday, July 19, 2014. Their location is 23685 Pebble Run Place, Dulles, VA 20166.

LeeHigh has Saturday service for their customers, and therefore WVC will have the use of a limited number of their lifts. They also have one or two flat bays for people who don't need a lift but still need the other amenities of the shop. We hope to attract a good group who will accomplish normal maintenance tasks. The LeeHigh Service Manager, Sean Thompson, will be on hand to answer our questions and give us guidance as we work on our own Volvos with our own tools. The LeeHigh staff technicians are NOT there to fix your car. They offer guidance only.

LeeHigh’s parts department will be open during the DIY session, and WVC requires you to use it for the parts you need during the session. Remember that LeeHigh grants a generous discount on parts to all WVC members showing a current membership card. It’s a good idea for you to contact their parts department at least a week in advance of the DIY session, to ensure that they’ll have everything you’ll need, and/or to allow for any parts that have to be special ordered to be delivered to LeeHigh in time for the DIY.

This DIY is not intended for major repairs that cannot be completed within the allocated time period. All participants in this event must bring their own tools, and do their own work. We encourage our Members who are not yet on the lifts to help out when an extra pair of hands is needed, and we’re always happy to show newcomers the joys of simple maintenance activities.

Participation is on a strict preregistration basis through WVC only; please do not contact LeeHigh for this purpose. You may preregister by completing all items on a registration form and mailing it, along with a non-refundable fee of $40 (which includes lunch and a gift card for the tech on duty), or registering on this page and paying by PayPal. The registration period is June 18 to July 12, with late registration from July 13 thru 18. Please keep in mind that we cannot guarantee there will be room for you if you register late, and if we can accommodate you, the registration fee will be $50. If you mail your payment, your check should be made payable to Washington Volvo Club. Remember that WVC doesn't allow walk-up registrations at DIYs anymore, so if you want to participate, then get your registration in ASAP!

This is the second of two DIYs at LeeHigh this year. Please think of your maintenance requirements, preregister early, and join us at this great location. WVC has set a limit on preregistration and we will be giving preference to those who get their registrations in early.

    Hi everyone,
All raring to go for tomorrow's DIY? So am I! Just a late-breaking news bulletin from LeeHigh that the hours for the DIY will be from 8:30 to 1:00 instead of 9:00 to 2:00. So we only get an extra half hour of sleep compared to other DIYs, but hey, that's something. Also, because they have some overspill work from earlier in the week still in the shop, we'll have three lifts available to us instead of the five we hoped for. Since we have five registered, Kelly suggested we do split shifts on the lifts and maybe let people with simpler work finish first. We'll have to see if one of the non-lift bays opens up, if someone has something simple to do which doesn't entail lifting the car. We'll figure this out when we get there, but keep this in mind as we go in. See you all in the morning!

David, do you mind if I arrive with my[masked] GLE around 10 a.m. instead of 9 a.m. on July 19th?

It shouldn't be a problem, but keep in mind we have to be out of LeeHigh by 2:00 sharp, so that's less time to get your work done. It's usually a good idea to have as much time as possible to do your work, because things sometimes do go wrong, and sussing those things out takes time too. Your call.

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
