Happy New Year! The Washington Volvo Club (WVC) kicks off the 2013 DIY series with a Do-It-Yourself (DIY) technical session at LeeHigh Autobody & Service Center in Dulles, VA from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM on Saturday, January 19, 2013. Their location is 23685 Pebble Run Place, Dulles, VA 20166. Please note that, unlike most of our DIYs that start at 8:00 AM, this event starts at 9:00 AM when LeeHigh's shop opens. Enjoy the extra hour of sleep!
LeeHigh Auto Service has Saturday service for their customers, and therefore WVC will have the use of six of their lifts. They also have one or two flat bays for people who don't need a lift but still need the other amenities of the shop. We hope to attract a good group who will accomplish normal maintenance tasks. The LeeHigh Service Manager, Sean Thompson, will be on hand to answer our questions and give us guidance as we work on our own Volvos with our own tools. The LeeHigh staff technicians are NOT there to fix your car. They offer guidance only.
LeeHigh’s parts department will be open during the DIY session, and WVC requires you to use it for the parts you need during the session. Remember that LeeHigh grants a generous discount on parts to all WVC members showing a current membership card. It’s a good idea for you to contact their parts department at least a week in advance of the DIY session, to ensure that they’ll have everything you’ll need, and/or to allow for any parts that have to be special ordered to be delivered to LeeHigh in time for the DIY.
This DIY is not intended for major repairs that cannot be completed within the allocated time period. All Club members must bring their own tools, and to do their own work. We encourage our Members who are not yet on the lifts to help out when an extra pair of hands is needed, and we’re always happy to show newcomers the joys of simple maintenance activities.
Participation is on a pre-registration basis through WVC only; please do not contact LeeHigh for this purpose. You may pre-register online through this page, or by completing all items on the mail-in PDF form and mailing it, along with a non-refundable fee of $20. Please note that, even though we have posted this event on the Meetup calendar early, registrations for this DIY will NOT be accepted before December 19, 2012. The registration period is December 19 to January 12, with late registration January 13-18. Your check should be made payable to Washington Volvo Club, or save time and pay by PayPal. You will be notified of your registration status during the week before the DIY. (Please be advised that if you don’t postmark your check and preregistration form by January 12, and if we can still accommodate you, which we can’t guarantee, the fee will go up to $35.) Remember that WVC no longer allows walk-up registrations at DIYs anymore, so be sure to get your registration in ASAP!
This is the first of two DIYs at LeeHigh this year. Please think of your maintenance requirements, preregister early, and join us at this great location. WVC has set a limit on preregistration and we will be giving preference to those who get their registrations in early.
