I was pleased to go to an Obama event but I was surprised that it was not advertised better. It could have been a gathering of thousands! I have been trying to find a way to volunteer in Westchester (Harrison area) and I made some contacts.

The t-shirt activity was fun, the ice cream was nice, and I always love an acoustic guitar. However, the event really fell below my expectations. There are so many excellent music groups in NYC--we could have gotten something a lot more rocking. Also, I was expecting more people than just 200 to show up over the course of the 4 hour event.
Though, again, there was a kinda hippie feel to it, but it seemed poorly organized.

I volunteered for the first time at the SummerFest. My volunteer responsibilities were to scoop ice cream and silicate campaign contributions. This is a volunteer event where people should be forming bonds with other volunteers. The general attitude should be one of appreciation not a sense of competition to see who is the best ice cream scooper. When the scooping started there were already three people doing the required task. I decided to be proactive a stand about 7 feet in front of the ice cream scooper's and put people on notice there was ice cream, but a donation would be appreciated in return for the ice cream. This worked great and nice Obama supporters willingly made contributions. I started scooping ice cream and encouraging donations at the neighboring table. Jennifer was somewhat friendly and at times appreciated my efforts. Her colleague however appeared jealous of my abilities to ask for and collect donations. This lead me to leave earlier than anticipated.

This had real potential, but did not deliver. I think that it needed at least one speaker and some serious publicity. No one I know (all Obama supporters) knew about the event. Even flyers on street subway or in the park would have been helpful.

I had a lot of fun. I met some really wonderful people, I made two t-shirts, I learned how to register voters, I learned about more Obama groups in NYC, and all this on a beautiful Sunday in Central Park. Thanks so much to the organizers!

P.S. I estimated that 200 people attended but it's hard to say because people were coming and going. There were probably more than 200 total.

Hi everyone, We had a great time today at the Obama SummerFest Meetup in Central Park. It was a gorgeous day and wonderful to see so many people stopping by to find out what we were up to. Had fun making our shirts and singing too. Looking forward to seeing the group photo and was glad to have been able to catch up with Leah and say hello. Thanks again to everyone who help to organize this really enjoyable afternoon.

The energy, activities and the people were all fun and inspiring! We had hula hoops, pictures with "Obama", a nomination video, and Barack stencil art along with buttons, voter registration, and free ice cream. Many European visitors passed by wishing they could vote for Obama.

I though the Summerfest was very good, The volunteers were kind and helpful. I believe to encourge more public participation refreshments should have been offered.

Great idea! Central Park has been the site of many important protests in the past... but now it will be the site of a very important celebration! Instead of being there because we are "against" something, we will be there because we are celebrating the birth of something very positive and new!
