Hi Kari, Sorry you missed the hike. We had great weather and especially the company. We enjoyed the lightening show from the top ** smile/dig ** Hoping you will make another hike, on your side of the pond (Lake Champlain) or ours. For you side we can pick you up at the ferry.

Hi Marc! Yes, I confirmed my ride with Peter. I got my rain jacket packed just in case, but I think we will be finished with our hike before the storm arrives - at least we hope so. ( :

Hi everyone! I have never hiked Mt. Mansfield and look forward to It! I would like to carpool if possible. I can take 3 passengers or would like to go in someone else's car. I live in Charlotte. Thanks!

Hello Peter, would you like to meet at the Shaws on Shelburne Road. I can wait for you in front. What time would you like to meet ?

      May 31, 2013

    • Van D.

from the Charlotte ferry parking area to Shaws maybe about half an hour or so. I guess we can plan to meet around 8:30 - 8:45am in front of Shaws. If that works for you, let me know.

Hi Van Dang, are you car pooling with Peter? I'd like to car pool too. I can drive to a place to park my car. I can take my car too, if we have more people wanting to car pool.

Anyone interested in car pooling from Burlington?
I am taking the ferry over from Essex, NY and can meet
somewhere in Burlington. Could drive reset of way, my
Volvo will take 4 additional passengers.

Hi Peter, I'd like to car pool! The Starbuck's right off the freeway on 580 Shelburne Rd in S Burlington has good parking. Would you like to meet there...or somewhere else?

Folks, I think I'm going to pass on this one. Went up Mt. Hunger and White Rocks today. A lot of snow and very wet trails. Lots of snow on Mansfield. It's like the clock has been set back 3 weeks into spring. I'm not sure what the conditions for Mansfield are going to be next weekend. Thinking more along the lines of the Skyline hike on the Worcester Range instead.

From online search, Sunset Ridge Trail is most scenic:
    One-way hiking distance: 3.3 miles
    One-way elevation gain: 2600 feet

    Other thoughts?

    May 26, 2013

    • Van D.

hey Peter, I think the same thing. Sunset Ridge is beautiful and seems to be at the moderate level of hike. 6.6 miles round trip is not bad. We should be able to finish the hike around 2 or 3pm and still can enjoy the rest of the evening. I don't know exactly the way there but Gail (see her comment below) posted a map that we can utilize for our nagivation.

      May 26, 2013

  • Van D.

uhm, so anyone has any idea of what trail we'll be taking ?

    May 24, 2013

    • Gail

or this map if you prefer to approach from the Stowe side: http://www.vtstatepar...

      May 24, 2013

    • Van D.

hey Gail, what do you think about us taking the first map direction, it looks easier than the second one. The sunset ridge trail looks pretty nice. I don't know exactly how to go all the way to the top though. but I guess we can use the first map.

Have always wanted to climb Mansfield. Hiked to top of all other highest peaks in New England. Am older, but in reasonable shape. If I slow the group, so on ahead.

    May 25, 2013

  • Joe D.

I work at 3 that afternoon. Might be best I say no to this one sadly. Which side of Mansfield are you folks hiking? The long route, the one on the non-Stowe side is my favorite. Have fun!

  • Rachel M.

Hi, I'm excited to get hiking!

    May 24, 2013

  • Van D.

can we carpool ? to save gas and our environment. Happy to cheap in. I'm in Burlington.

    May 24, 2013

    • alexpastor

I would but I'm coming from Montpelier and only have a 2-seater (dog occupying the passenger seat). But would be happy to carpool with anyone else who does not mind a dog or dog hair. :)

      May 24, 2013

  • Gail

Which trail will you be taking? Different trails there have different challenge levels.

    May 24, 2013

    • Van D.

hey Gail, uhm... good question... do you have any suggestion ? Please feel free to throw out your ideas. I would say something not too difficult, but challenging enough. Maybe around 5 hours round-trip so we can get out around 3-4pm and enjoy the rest of the evening.

Bringing my dog. Look forward to the first mountain hike of this season and meeting new folks!
