About Vancouver Young Professionals Social Group (VYP)

ABOUT US:
VYP was founded in the Fall of 2006 by Mel and Faiz.

VYP provides a relaxed environment for fun, friendly, like-minded, and driven young professionals in the Vancouver area. VYP believes in bringing back a sense of real community by complimenting the more impersonal online mediums used by our members with real events for real people!


WHAT DOES VYP STAND FOR ?

VYP stands for Vancouver Young Professionals.


MEMBERS:
Our members consist of men and women, couples and singles. Most of our 2,000+ members are in the 24 - 35 range. Our members come from a variety of professional backgrounds, but all have one thing in common: the desire to expand their social networks and meet new, like-minded individuals.

Members come to the group for a variety of reasons:
a) The member may be recently single and is looking to expand their social circle, and or is looking for a special significant other.

b) The member may have found that their social circle has recently changed (for various reasons), and is looking to expand it.

c) The member may work long hours, or travel often for work and is looking for pre-scheduled events.

d) The member may be new to town.

While VYP events are not structured to be business networking events, often networking will naturally happen, but in a more relaxed environment.


IS THERE A FEE FOR JOINING THIS GROUP?

There are no fees for joining VYP. The only payment required would be for meals that you personally order at our bi-weekly brunches or fees associated with signing up for one of our sports teams/outings. We often collect a set donation for charities and or for covering personal costs to run the group (meetup, website, photocopying etc).

WHAT TYPES OF ACTIVITIES DO YOU PART TAKE IN?

We have organized many diverse events including sporting teams, stand up comedy nights, plays, running clubs, snowboarding/snowshoeing, brunches, Friday night weekend kick-offs, 75 sports teams and the list continues to grow.

To-date, we've held of 250 events since our inception in October 2006.


HOW MANY MEMBERS ATTEND YOUR EVENTS?
Friday Night Socials attract between 100-200 members, depending on the venue.

All other events we host consist of much smaller groups to allow for easy interaction between members. Smaller events can host between 10-40 individuals.

Each event will bring out a new crowd, so you will never see the same crowd twice! Some members prefer certain events over others. This is why VYP prides itself in offering a variety of different kinds of events, to suit each individuals' needs and interests.


HOW DO WE RSVP FOR AN EVENT

Simply email us at info@vyp.ca. Our mailing list will contain detailed information regarding upcoming events and sports team registration. It also includes all contact info, including phone numbers.


HOW OFTEN DO YOU HOST EVENTS
Between 2-4 events are hosted each month, with 3-8 on-going sports teams running at any given time. Sports team registration is based on the time of year and interest level. Sports teams are currently registered in local sports leagues.




TERMS OF SERVICE:
a) Upon joining this group and attending our events, the member accepts responsibility for his or her actions and personal safety when attending any gatherings, activities, and events organized by this group.

b) Personal contact information will not be released outside of VYP's organization without the individual's prior consent. Members are strongly encouraged to exchange contact information with each other at our events.

c) Upon joining this group, the member agrees to show respect to the Directors, event volunteers, venue staff and fellow members. Physical and verbal abusive behavior will not be tolerated and will result in immediate dismissal and from all future events hosted by VYP Social Group.

d) Members are to exercise professionalism at events. If drinking at one of our events, we request that our members seek an alternative form of transportation. Drinking and Driving will not be tolerated.
