The Trans Canada Trail in Vancouver, Part III: East Van to Burnaby

  • July 13, 2013 · 10:45 AM
  • This location is shown only to members

Although the last part of this series ended at Adanac & Commercial, we'll start this one at a more accessible place, and then walk north on Victoria until we get to the area where we ended the last one.

We'll pass by parks and old houses, and then turn right on Adanac, heading towards the Trans-Canada Trail sculpture at Templeton Secondary School, then we'll go due north all the way to Wall Street, walk along that beautiful hidden gem of a neighbourhood above the harbour, and then into New Brighton Park, on Burrard Inlet by the 2nd Narrows Bridge.

After that, we'll go under the 2nd Narrows Bridge into Burnaby, through some interesting Burnaby parks, and finally ending in Kensington Park, at Hastings & Kensington, where you can catch several buses that go back towards Downtown Vancouver, or wherever you want to go.

The URL for this route is http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/?r=5987768 Note that this map does not include the first part along Victoria.

  • We will stop periodically for washrooms breaks.
  • The walk will take place rain or shine.
  • Dogs are welcome provided that their owners are responsible for them at all times and that they remain on leash.
  • The walk will actually begin at 11:00 am.
  • The walk is approximately 11 km.
  • The end time is approximate.
  • The pace will be moderate - not a stroll, but not a fast walk, either.

Man I've been kicking myself all day that I didn't leave my house earlier. Did not expect it to take more than an hour to get to the meetup place. I will do better next time and hey I got the lawn mowed :)

34/35 people seems like a lot. It sounds like a lovely walk though and Saturday is supposed to be another good day. How many is enough, is there a cut off point?

    July 12, 2013

    • Laura B.

No cut-off point. No worries - we won't lose anybody, and not everybody will show up anyhow.

This will be my first meetup with this group. Looking forward to it! Question: is it a problem if I bring Nordic walking poles?

    July 12, 2013

      No problem at all.

Reluctant as I am, I have to cancel as I need to replace another instructor in a Praise Dance class which starts at 2:30 p.m. in Richmond. It's just too tight.

I'd like to join but haven't gone walking in a very long time and think 11 km is too much to start with. looking for a walk that is moderately paced that is 5 km or less

    July 5, 2013

    • Laura B.

Hi Hedy - You could just join us for the first half if you want to; this walk is near transportation most of the time. Anyway, you might surprise yourself - it's amazing how fast 11km go when you're chatting and having fun.

Hi Laura, I live near Templeton School so I'll wait and meet you at the sculpture.

    July 3, 2013

OK - we'll probably be there some time between 11:30 and 12:00.
