I thought that I would organize a walk with a historical twist, the "Mosaic Walk". For those of you who are not familiar with the mosaic walk: throughout Gastown, Chinatown and East Vancouver there are over 30 historical markers depicting parts of Vancouver's History.
This walk will start at the Water Street Skytrain station at 9:30 am with a 15 minute waiting period for latecomers. We'll go east and go into Crabapple Park and walk around the park. This park has a nice view of the Cruise Ships docking for new passengers and supplies and all of the mountain ranges on the North side. You can still see the snow on the Lion Mountains. There are two mosaics in this park. This is a nice quiet park and not too well known even for locals.
Next, we will then head over to the Strathcona and do a zig-zag of the area. There will be mosaics as well as heritage houses in this area. We can then go over to Mosiac Creek Park (Charles and McClean) and look at a stream made out of mosaics. Originally the Parks Board planned to put a stream through this park but it wasn't financially feasible. Then we will head up to Commercial Drive where we will have a diverse choice of places for those people who would like to have lunch.
After lunch, people who would like to leave the walk can take the Victoria bus towards downtown or to the Broadway skytrain station. For others, we will continue to walk back towards Chinatown and downtown looking at more heritage houses and mosaics. This should be a fun and interesting walk for people who are not familiar with this area.
Remember everyone, this is a slower paced walk but sometimes it's nice to be able to just stop and take a deep breath.
Hope to see you there.
