Mount Pleasant Historical Walk

  • January 26, 2014 · 12:00 PM

We will start at Heritage Hall, located at 3102 Main Street (Main and 15th Avenue) at 12:00 with a 15 minute waiting time for latecomers. Then we will wander through the neighbourhood and looked at a number of the historical buildings in the area.

And what would a walk in Vancouver be without Heritage Houses. We will also be going through Mount Pleasant's "Most Beautiful Block". This is a street filled with beautiful and perfect heritage houses. Walking down this street has always given me much joy and happiness. You will be able to see the two dominant architectural styles: Queen Anne Style Cottages and the more larger Edwardian style houses. We were quite lucky the last time we did this walk as we were rewarded by actually going into the back of the houses and Mr. Davis, the owner of the houses let us look around. That in itself was a treat. There are many Heritage Buildings in this area of Vancouver and very well maintained.

Hope you can make it.

Michael

I was really disappointed today as it took a lot of energy for me to just get to the meet up place I arrived on time waited until. 12:15 no organizer was available. I felt it was very strange for 25people to be standing in the middle of the sidewalk and it was uncomfortable standing while small groups of regular walkers chatted I left. I will get more information for walks in the future.

Michael, I thoroughly enjoyed the walk and all the information you gave us on the history of Mount Pleasant. I look forward to getting to know Vancouver better through guided walks like the one you lead yesterday. I too waited for the walk to begin however I enjoyed the time by getting to know other walkers.

We're a friendly lot, Jill. Feel free to say hi. You'll find us standing on sidewalks, street corners, parking lots, transit stations, prominent landmarks - whatever's a convenient and easy-to-find meeting place. Heritage Hall seems pretty appropriate for a historical walk.

Thank you Michael for such a pleasant , informative and friendly historical walk yesterday. It was my first meeting for the walking group. I truly enjoyed it and am looking forward to attend future historical walks organized by you. Thank you for your handwork and great organizational skill.

Thank you, Michael, for organizing this wonderful walk. If you had not, I would not have had the opportunity to enjoy the lovely and informative afternoon with such a great group. Thank you also for printing the leaflet.

Hi Michael. I'm new to the group and want to go, but my daughter may need me to take her somewhere, so will probably not be able to make it.

Hi, Michael. I'm not sure I'm going to make it. Have a number of things I need to do today. I'll go if I have time.

Changed my RSVP, just in case. Hate being a no-show.

Michael, do you have an estimated time of completion and finishing location? I need to meet some folks then and there to give them a ride home. Thanks.

Hi Simon, in the past we have taken around four hours. It always depends on the participants. We finish up around the 100 block of West 10th, but you are welcome to leave at any time as we are always in the neighbourhood of Mount Pleasant.
