Hike along the Mississippi River

  • Mar 22, 2013 · 1:00 PM
  • This location is shown only to members

RSVP YES only.  ('NO' RSVPs are not required and flood my inbox with unnecessary messages.)  Thanks

Meeting location has been changed to the Longfellow Grill.  We'll meet inside the restaurant to stay out of the cold wind until everyone arrives.  Come early and enjoy lunch before the walk, and/or stay afterward for Happy Hour.

Keep my number with you that day, just in case... [masked]  Call or text me if your plans change at the last minute and you can't make it.  I can only check the RSVPs up until 12 noon, so it would be nice to know we don't need to wait for you.

In winter, we might have to walk the sidewalks along the parkway to avoid icy sections of the trail, but only if the trail is slippery and hazardous.  Otherwise be prepared to hike through snow.

It is funny (not ha ha funny) that on our hike that was one week before Easter that we found the actual, ancient and historical---to say the least--steps that were part of the Way of the Cross. I know it sounds unbelievable, but would I lie to you? There were four of us, I have witnesses. I am certain that were we to further explore the immediate area at the base of that actual, ancient and historical stairway that we would find relics, significant if not The most significant of relics; and perhaps even, dare I say it, pieces of the actual, ancient and historical cross. I am promising nothing, it is only my faith and earnestness that causes me to tell you of this; however, I am taking subscriptions at a very small cost, hardly a cost at all, so that I can pass on to you, my dear friends, a piece of the true cross which I am sure we will find. Let us keep this between us, hush, hush so to speak. Regards and with utmost sincerity,
    Tim

You see I went on this walk, and it was a meander. Halfway through I realize (but I didn't know it was halfway through because I wasn't in charge, and more so, no one was in charge so who's to say at any or all points that we were halfway, even more or less halfway?), like I was saying, about halfway it became clear that it wasn't a purposeful hike. I say that without judgment, but you know it takes special people to rise to the level of purposeless activity...rare and delicate, that. Let me be personal about it, I had fun. That is a disgusting thing in itself and uncalled for so don't tell no one, or anyone for that matter. I had good conversation, too. Got's to do that again sometime even though the fun part was kinda disgusting.
There were four of us on the meander, Ms. X, Ms. Y, Ms. Z, and me, Mr. W. I did not properly thank and say goodbye to Ms. X, Ms. Y and Ms. Z. Thank you.

Wear waterproof hiking shoes/boots so we can hike on the trail, and not on the sidewalk. Pounding the pavement in hiking boots not a comfortable walk!
